Sorry to hear FatPunt.
Have a week or two off if money allows and have a refresh and a think. No need to rush into anything hopefully. I hope you got paid what you deserved for 23 years loyalty. Let punting take a back burner whilst you decide your next move. All the very best. |
|
By:
Sorry to hear that too. Hopefully you’ve got a decent lump sum off them so you don’t have to worry about finding something else instantly.
Good luck in whatever you do next. |

if you are over 50 fatpunt chances are you will struggle to get a job ,same happened to me... started a gardening round bought tools cheap from bootsales went self employed done that for 10 -12 years .still do a bit now and again .

Fat punt could give Ironfailings a job when he starts up his business. Get the bone idle, scrounging stalker into gainful employment and orrrff the Old King Cole. Stalking on here all day 7 days a week is bad for his mental elf.

Sorry to hear that FP. Remember you can get JSA (jobseekers allowance) for a bit even if you have too much under the mattress for UC.
Good luck finding another job. Remember to tap up all your contacts whose firms might be taking people on. |

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I turned 50 in July, Folyes and I'm not in the best of health, but I'll try to get another job, and I ain't bothered what it might be. I was only on a little more than minimum wage anyway. In regard to my profile picture, I posted a normal 'selfie', which the moderators said was inappropriate, but it was ok if they turned it ninety degrees!!!

50 isn't 'old' by any means and in fact many employers are more than happy to engage with them. They tend not to go clubbing, have drama every day in their lives, stay up playing video games all night, and their work attendance is good.
|
|
By:
ahem, indeed - in your (mid) 50s isn't at all old (I hope)!

I'm in Northants Reg. I'll have to go down to the job centre on Monday morning or sign up with an agency.
|
|

Good luck with that, but why not spend the weekend googling local job sites if you want to get straight into another job?
The jobcentre unlikely to have anything you can't find yourself |

I was made redundant at 53 and it turned out to be a blessing. I was very lucky, hope you are too FP.

If you want to work for a specific company, check their own website (normally a link right down the bottom of their home page).
|
|
By:
Sorry to hear about your situation, FP.
There seem to be a lot of supermarket delivery driver jobs around. Tesco pay about £525 pw plus discount on your shopping. (Do customers give them tips?) Best of luck |

It's very physical, he's not in the best of health. In store is easier.

Yes, you're right - quite a bit of heavy lifting.

Sign on and sit back. That's what everybody else is doing! You don't even have to look for a job nowadays. And when you hit 66 or 67 you can sit back and claim your pension (and pension credit if you don't have a private pension) and announce to the world you've 'done your bit' - which you may or may not have done.
I managed to find a job aged 50 but that was during covid- when nobody wanted to work - so I might have got a bit lucky! |
