Or someone with a better library than me. Does anyone know what happened to him? Bolted up on very bad ground - Timeform 130 - and was expected to be a leading stayer in 1966, but didn't race again. Owner was a breeder so you wouldn't have expected him to be sold.

Ten years later Bruni produced a similar demolition - Timeform 132 - but I don't think he ever managed to reproduce the impression he made that day.

This according to the net, viral infection so didn't run & was sold to Russia (1966) where he died
a short time after.

Thanks it must have been pretty bad to curtail his career and then be sold to Russia. Can't be many Classic winners to take that route. We never got to find out if that Leger was a one-off on bad ground. Previously, he had only just got home in a Melrose. Similarly, Bruni had probably achieved even less.

DD.I don't have records of that time except in my head. I backed Provoke in the Melrose but not in the Leger despite folowing the stable at the time. I'm not sure if the Leger was on a Saturday then but I was married (first) on the Saturday that week. The day before (Friday) I had a good double up Nearside 100/6 & Antiquarian 11/2. Can't remember the name of the third horse in my Patent. I think Nearside was owned by Astor same as Provoke.Antiquarian was owned and trained by Herbert Blagrave . It still annoys me to this day that I went off Provoke because of the ground Cry
