It's insignificant and perfectly normal to find in a horse competing on a hot day like this. The way it's worded sends everyone into a panic because, evidently, you cannot quantify on a report the amount of blood present. I'm happy, my vets and the BHA's vet are all happy too. He's completely, categorically fine."

Many horses bleed slightly even after a gallop

I was hoping this would be an end to the story. He looked to run his race, and just wasn't good enough against better opposition. Given his age and breeding that shouldn't have been a surprise.

That must put the kybosh on Melbourne Cup plans.

Nicholas John Henderson LVO OBE (born 10 December 1950) is a British racehorse trainer. He has been British jump racing Champion Trainer six times.

His father was Johnny Henderson who was one of the founders of the Racecourse Holdings Trust as well as earlier in life being Aide-de-camp to Field Marshal Montgomery.

Henderson, educated at Eton College, he started in horse racing as an amateur jockey, progressed to assistant trainer to Fred Winter between 1974 and 1978, and has been a trainer since 1978, based at Seven Barrows, in the civil parish of Lambourn, Berkshire.
