its nothing to do with tax,but if chapers /itv want to save shops why dont they ask people not to bet online and bet pysically either in shops or on course,wont make a enny difference to their top line,but we all no its about keeping or making FOBT,s more profitable as bookies will tell you not the racing gravey train,its 100% nothing to to do with horse racing ,if it was they wouldnt be banning,restricting,unters and refusing to take bets, ONES A 100% guarenteed FIXED WINNER,THE OTHER ISNT

With so few people able to back winners pre-race these days horse racing isn't far off being a certain winner. Bookmakers would restrict and ban whatever. It's what they have become used to doing, and they are not going to stop. Nobody is ever going to force them to adopt a fairer practice.

Different Drum, yes you are probably right. What irks me is racing just going along with whatever propaganda the off course bookmakers come up with instead of challenging them. Racing has been on a slow death ever since it tied itself to being funded by bookmakers profits. Ever since then racing has just gone along with whatever bookmakers want, whether it's a ridiculously inflated fixture list, the majority of punters with half a brain not being able to get a decent bet on, repeating the anti government propaganda etc etc. Racing needs to find a different funding model, drastically reduce the fixture list and get away from just being propaganda machines for the bookies who realistically couldn't give a damn about racing unless it's making them big profits.

unlike any other business in the world BOOKAMKERS dont want the most obvious answer ,which is to get more people in to shops betting, they offer their online offerings in hop and more and offer worse.inferior offer online, unless your playing casino games.FOBT,s , BOOKMAKERS DONT WANT YOU ENTERING THEIR SHOPS and stopping any possible    tax increase  wont change that policy, they,d simply rather close than attract horse racing punters

You should be in the front line for a job if that were true 1st TP. So much ignorance around, when will people realise that Racing is inextricably bound to gambling e.g No gambling = no racing and it does not just apply to the UK. However much hatred you have for bookmakers or FOBTs the simple fact is there is no comparable funding model otherwise wiser people than this Forum would have found it.

exactly LINKED TO GAMBLING not linked to horse racing gambling o why did the horse racing gravey train spend 18 months begging gov to tax other forms of gambling more than horse race punting ? racing functioned for over a 100 yrs without FOBT,s , table the over day with the shop closures already btaken place £ from horse racing punting is roughly the same as before the closures, if horse racing can only survive with the illgotten gains from OCG been  laundered through FOBT,s ,casino games ETC,it doesnt deserve to survive
