Surprised anyone is surprised. Sprints in particular have looked like glorified handicaps for a long time. Perhaps because handicappers started winning them? Bigger fields, less quality, and bookmakers can't get enough of it. Noticeable how many runners there are at listed level for races in Ireland. Often none of the participants look up to much. No doubt the cheerleaders will be out in force, but the Arc looks ordinary again this year. The Flat is really struggling to throw up stars, hence so many narratives about people instead, and they aren't very exciting, quite often bigging up several who are a plague on the sport where punters are concerned.
