Racing Post has decided to "improve" the layout of windows opened when accessing racehorse form within the website. It is a dogs dinner now.Extra tabs appearing on your browser bar when a person accesses a horses form creating a sprawling mess of an experience.Extra tabs and windows remaining on your browser bar when you move on the next horse to study.
I guess no layout is perfect, but it worked a lot better before the recent changes. Before the recent changes,a person had smaller windows that opened up inside one browser tab when accessing form elements regarding a racehorse. Those smaller windows could easily be closed down within one browser tab, before moving on to the next horse.
Now it is a browser tab dump that constantly needs clearing up as you move on to the next horse.Less intuitive, slower in operation.Whoever thought of the changes does not study form,no right minded person would think the new layout is better.

I subscribe to the RP and they made these changes, and other changes over years, without any discussion with me or any other subscribers. I don't like the new card layout at all. They changed it without telling anyone or asking for feedback or anything. And nobody was asking for these changes. I don't know why they do it. Like, why is the verdict at the top? In fact why is EVERYTHING at the top of the racecard? Why are they so many buttons/tabs on the racecard? It look a mess.

It might be a coincidence but I've only backed backed one or two winners since the changes to the racecard!!!

Couldn't agree more. Too much scrolling up and down, tabs opening all over the place and problems logging in all the while. There was nothing wrong with the old layout. I want them to change it back to how it was, but we all know that they won't. It takes me so much longer to study a race; it's so frustrating. Cry

My guess is the RP has gone "phone first". Tbh I prefer the "new tab" but then could use the middle button to get that so did not notice things had changed.

I've not noticed problems logging in, aside from being logged out every couple of days but I'd put that down to a new time limit. You might want to do the cache clearance thing there, and cookies as a last resort.

There are other new changes that have appeared in the last week with no annoucement and appear to be retrograde staps. Eg 2.05 at Hay. Click on form of the fav and it shows it beat Arthurian. click on that race to check Arthurians form. New layout does not show details of its races, only a summary, that then requies more tabs. Very infuriating when it was previously available.

I have switched to attheraces, not perfect but the new RP just too annoying, eyes all over the place trying to navigate across swathes of empty white space.

The Irishracing one is very good especially the quotes from connections very interesting and informative.

porterline: I agree with every word. Each new day I click on a horse's name praying that the old system has been restored, and that I won't get loads of new tabs opening in the browser bar.

The only positive way I can think of to look at it is that few punters do form study any more, and even fewer will attempt it now that it has become so frustrating. Hopefully those punters will turn to stats (or AI or whatever) and those of us who do still go through the pain of navigating the Post's website will have an even bigger edge.

As for those other sites listed above, they lack so much of the information which you find on the Post website that you might as well use the Post on a phone, where a lot of that information is also missing.

Have they managed to re-order the data tables (topspeed, postdata etc) coherently yet, numerically top to bottom?

lux -- if you click on any of the headings on the RP card, then it will sort by that column (and click again to reverse direction of sort: up or down).

Anyone noticed that for around a week now, once you opne up a horse's form, then click on any one line of that form, there is an issue?

Namely, if the line of form you clicked on was a handicap race, the numbered banding of that race (Ie 0-70 etc) is missing! Quite a big omission for serious form students.

I wrote to the RP earlier in the week and they say they had noticed (had they??) and will correct the problem when the latest software upgrade is put through later in September.

It is really poor that their software people are so careless and, apparently, seem to know so little about horse racing that these errors keep happening.

Clearly the RP should have just left the site alone.

I have a banner/betting slip on my page which I can't get rid of - I wish I could acquaint myself
with ATR but I've reluctantly been a default RP user out of habit and it's SO difficult for me to
change...as I struggle to handle it.

The aútístíc website designers are tin-eared as they point blank refuse to acknowledge any fair
criticism...from the people who actually use it!

It was refreshing to hear Leonna being critical of the RP recently - how long's she gonna last?Crazy

Just sent this to crmforward@racingpost.com

Good afternoon. I am contacting you as you were very helpful when problems arose earlier this year with the change in form layout on the Racing Post website.

With the recent further changes a week or two ago, a further problem has arisen. When you click on a horse's name, the list of the horse's lifetime results appears as a smaller window in the current tab, which is great. This is how it has always appeared. The problem now though is that when you click on an individual race within that list of lifetime results, the race result appears as a brand new full-screen window, along with an additional new tab in the browser bar. And this reoccurs every time you click on further races to work through the form line. This makes navigating between the form of different horses and individual results extremely clunky and frustrating. And by the time you have finished examining an individual horse's form, you are left with a huge number of tabs which you need to navigate to in order to close, and then back to the smaller windows to close them.

Previously everything - a horse's form page and its individual results - appeared as small windows within the current tab, which made navigation straightforward and ensured that it was simple to close everything down before moving on to examining the next horse in the race.

I hope I've explained this clearly. Try clicking on a horse's name and then clicking on an individual race within the results list which appears, and you will see what I mean.

Believe me, it's not a trivial matter. It turns the Racing Post site into something a user dreads having to use for form study. There is a thread about it on the Betfair forum, along with lists of suggestions for other websites form students can use to avoid the Racing Post.

https://community.betfair.com/horse_racing/go/thread/view/94102/31910257/racing-post-dogs-dinner-layout-changes

I do hope that you can convince the Post's technical staff to restore the old system of exclusively smaller windows in the current tab.

Thanks.

Thank you for getting in touch with the Racing Post.

A ticket (191855) has been created and is being reviewed by the Racing Post Customer Services team.

We aim to reply to all correspondence within 7 days, however, we are currently receiving a higher than usual volume of customer correspondence.

Following an update to our website on Monday 24th August, you may encounter some difficulties in accessing features of your Racing Post + subscription. All entitlements are in the process of being updated as soon as possible.

In the interim, we thank you for your patience.

____________

Evidently they are going to have to do some work fixing the bugs they've created, so I hope anyone else who finds this issue with the new tabs a problem will also get in touch with the Post. Add a bit of pressure.

Screaming - I've noticed the problem you described and its infuriating. Thankfully I use RP just for back up for a handful of data points not shown on the main site I use. I've sort of got used to finding what I want since the changes, but I feel for anybody with RP only.

Mr.C - much appreciated...but all I can see is two 'winning posts' turned 90 degrees, with 3 further options.
There are options but I don't know what do do in the settings...and I'm NOT even logged in!

Many thanks again but I think I'll need further advice as I'm not too adept with irritating techCrazy

Look for red bin on the betslip first

mrcombustible 11 Aug 26 13:42
I had the same problem and didn't have the bin icon.

I didn't want to delete all my cookies only the RP ones

Click on the slide bars to the left of the address bar

Click site settings then you will see in the top row, delete data

It has worked for me

Failing that delete RP cookies

MH - thank you bud - much appreciated as that's done the trick!Happy

I really cannot even think of a reason why these incredibly annoying 'faults' (cos they're intentional) aren't
easily resolved - it's definitely by design...but WHY??Confused

Absolutely ridiculous!

It's not really a surprise with the RP as their website aútísts really do pull out ALL the stops to píss
their customer base off as much as possible! It's undeniable...and they have plenty of 'form' for it!Angry
