The Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licence of BresBet Ltd which runs bresbet.com and Bet St George Ltd which operates betstgeorge.com.

The suspension of BresBet (operating licence no 065252-R-340096-002) and Bet St George Ltd (operating licence no 067818-R-341699-001) follows Commission enquiries which revealed suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.

The Commission is now carrying out a review of both licences under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005 and the suspension will remain in place until the Commission is satisfied the businesses are compliant.

wots happened there ?

Creditors will be paid hopefully.
The hypocrisy of these scumbags putting some to the sword while they allow crooks to funnel money through their books without proper checks (allegedly) is staggering.

So from OP, it looks like Bresbet lost its licence for not doing AML checks or "social responsibility failings" which, possibly wrongly, I take to mean not stopping punters betting too much.

So don't be surprised when your usual bookmaker demands even more information about your ID, where you get your money from, and how much you can afford to lose, even imposing stake limits.

Which are also the sorts of things your bookie would do if it thinks you are a shark, a filthy arber, or anyone with a clue.

I do not disagree with you in principle, but

- no bookie is going to step forward to do that first, while others do not
- if imposed from above, it will be another driver towards the unregulated market
