He has certainly earned a really good retirement I would agree the best staying chaser since kauto star my word he gave a lot pleasure to many national hunt lovers .

Very very sad to hear this news a real champion who gave so many so much pleasure

Very sad and also very strange. The horse was retired in March but only announced recently.

if it doesnt like it then maybe ok. but not otherwise. similar to kauto star

Apparently the horse was with ruby walsh since retiring sadly he was found to have an irreparable injury high on his fore leg this morning.

What a tragic story. Just let the poor beasts enjoy their well-earned retirements.
And spare us the bullsh!t cover stories about being found injured in a field.
Sickening on every level.

The owners make a point of saying how much they love the horse yet they send the poor beast to Walsh!

The question really is when he was moved from Mullins to Walsh ..all seems very quick and convenient...ever since old father Ted brought a horse into the winners enclosure at Cheltenham bleeding from whip marks I'd have thought that anyone who loved a horse as much as the owners claim to,would never give their horse to Walsh..

Anybody who has actually been involved with race horses will know that horses die every day for no apparent reason.

I do agree with you uptheirons but it’s some coincidence that’s the two best staying chasers this century both had very short retirements when taking up a new career.

Any premature death of a racehorse is never good publicity no matter how it happened. Just read some of the imbeciles commenting on some of the news sites. Beggars belief what goes on in their heads.

That they trying a new career strongly suggests that the horse was not a suitable candidate for a life in the paddocks,jimnast.

Showjumping and eventing(cross country especially)are particularly gruelling sports..to subject a horse of Galopin's age and past career to training for this is nothing short of brutal verging on cruelty...shame on the"loving"owners

eventing is bollox, particularly dressage and no way any retired horse should have to suffer it

ask any one of them and its 1.01 galop and kauto would rather be muching carrots in a field than getting involved in this nonsense after what they had done

saying some dont want to be in a paddock is a hoary old excuse for greedy people to over-use the poor nag and it hasnt ended well for 2 of the best. a bit conspiracyish but going straight into re-training resulted in both suffering catastrophic injury very soon

It is not an excuse,Busy,
It is a fact .I have seen horses die whilst in their Stables
Nevertheless,it is a great shame that it ended that way for the horse

the point is it should never have been re-routed to anything except rolling around and it had every summer out to grass for 10 years no problem

walsh said he went to get it ready for its new training regime when he found it

also worth pointing out is that pumpkin and kauto owner fell out because nickels said it should be kept where it had spent the previous decade and not taken to a new and strange environment. it was soon dead. similar here

horses are timid creatures and can get severely stressed when taken away from what they have become familiar and comfortable with. might be something in this but i aint no expert

You can not say all horses want retirement.

We have had some that love being in a field most of the day eating and sleeping.
We have also had others who stand by the gate most of the day waiting to do something.

It is very sad to lose any horse, especially one who bought happiness to many.
We will never know what happened to him, as it is strange to me how he is retired, then five days later passes away. Did it really happen like this?
But I would be extremely confident his death is not connected to his new surroundings or his new training regime.

This stinks from top to bottom. Needs serious investigation. They owe the horse that much. Of course, don't expect ANY Walsh to tell the truth about this.

Very sad, it does sound a bit fishy.

Well someone could explain but you're right that is going to happen

We all know what happened to him.
He died

He sustained an injury and was euthanised, a big difference to saying 'he died'.

The fact is he owed nobody anything but was still being used as a commodity even in supposed 'retirement'. You maybe consider a second 'career' if it's established he doesn't enjoy relaxing in a field. The truth is the truth won't out.

Why not leave it at that then,swifty instead of trying to make it into the X Files?
