Push The Limit, a four-year-old chestnut with white socks, was formerly trained by Arc de Triomphe-winning Flat handler Ralph Beckett.

A Glorious Goodwood winner over 1m3f for owners Valmont, he was last seen finishing a close-up fifth in the Listed Murless Stakes over 1m6f at Ascot last October.

Sold at the Tatts Autumn Sale for the whopping price later that month, Push The Limit was listed as being trained by Skelton soon after.

But the identity of the owner remained a secret – until now.

580 kiloGuineas sounds like a lot for a prospective almost not quite top class hurdler.

FAO Ramruma

Apologies for going 'off topic' but is the Forum functioning normally for you?

I've logged-in on two separate occasions this morning and when viewing the Horse Racing Forum list of topics it appears as I would expect.

However when I click on a topic to view it the replies are shown/listed in Standard View akin to the Community Classic forum.

Have you experienced this or is it just me?

top2rated -- forum is working normally for me. Outside topics, I am in new view; inside in classic view as opposed to live view. So I think my preference is the opposite from yours.

From what I remember years ago, trick was to log out, close window, delete Betfair forum cookies, log back in and hope preferences would stick. Probably clear cache as well to be on the safe side. GL.

Seems to be OK now.

Thanks again, Ramruma.

Back to the topic, Push the Limit. Has Dan Skelton said anything about targets? It's autumn next week so the jumps stable tours should start appearing soon.

I wonder if Skelton used the same methodology as when George Gently was purchased?
Report CagliariG August 24, 2026 1:10 PM BST
He did not buy the horse.

Oct 2025Autum HIT Sale (Tattersalls (UK))Purchaser: Ryan Mahon / Dan Skelton Racing£580,000

Is this her first purchase as an owner , Mr Skelton and herself may make a formidable partnership going forward.

I stand corrected Jacko, thought it was Ryan Mahon who was the bidder. Think he said he wants to have a novice campaign starting in October but will avoid soft ground?

Just a further indication of where we are going. Moving towards Skelton and nobody else. Henderson string wouldn't be comparable, and neither would Nicholls. Horrible situation unless your name is Skelton. At least in Ireland they have got Mullins, Elliott, De Bromhead, and Cromwell, all of whom will hopefully, not be going anywhere soon. Imagine if someone with the mentality of plot merchants like Byrnes and Martin took over from those four.

Skelton will rule for the next decade imv….

Simply a changing of the guard, he may well dominate in the UK and imo that is preferable to not having any challenge to the Irish, there are other younger trainers who will come through also, happens when the older generation fade away and always has done?

Spot on Cag. Its it time to get NH thread up and running? I read that Sober Glory is going chasing this season and he could well got to the top over fences

I do not think Skelton would dare practise "George Gently" on Denise Coates. She'd eat Mr Skelton alive, and spit him out without discomfort.

I do not like this move one bit. Choosing professional ability over bad character is morally wrong. It's rewarding bad behaviour.
