Definitely gave away 8th place which had prize money for the owner. Not much but every £1000 will be precious for Andrew Balding who is £690000 behind Aiden who had a quiet meeting by his standards. Seems too much deficit but is only 2 more good Group 1 winners. Item Champion Stakes, Kalpana or Prizeland Fillies and Mares and plenty of 2yo talent coming through.

Balding pretty much said Tarriance wasn't winning. He was very upfront today. Called Marvelman as a better bet than Flora.

Mics is a fisherman, so the OP is irrelevant to me.

But in regard to the general topic, Keane's loyalties are to the owner. The owner doesn't give a flying fig about place money, they'd only be interested in placing for black type with their fillies and mares. Which is why I imagine it's a pretty awkward dynamic when owners have retainers. I wonder if Billy would have been riding in the Ebor if it was a different owner, if so, George would have been adding it to the list of his big race wins this season. But obviously, it's a delicate relationship as trainers want owners that are powerful enough to retain a jockey. So they predominately take the rough with the smooth, I imagine.

Clearly, as punters we know who the retained jockeys are, and you'd be pretty dumb to be relying on them to still ride out when they can no longer win.
