It can certainly happen in a £50k maiden race. The loudest calls before the race were for Aiden O'Brien and Gosden. On what evidence? Both had been beaten twice before. Most of the rest were unraced so could be either useless or Classic winners for next year.

I suspect - as it often is - a lot of money for not very much. There were not a load of pedigrees that jumped off the page. I did create a thread about the vast number of 2yo's totally unproven on the softer ground so plenty of guesswork going on.

2yo maidens like this show the value of inside information, because there is almost no public form. In this case, the value was low.
Looking at the race, the winner and second started slowly and were held up before coming late. It might just be the field went off too fast and did not last home in the conditions. I'd not write off the losers just yet. |
