Yes ….fairer track for one…..
Report Cider August 16, 2026 12:39 PM BST
It's not a bigger meeting though.

For some reason rtv are going into hype overdrive over it this year.
Report formoftheace August 16, 2026 12:58 PM BST
Juddmonte and Sussex Stakes are certainly on par…..

Nunthorpe….etc….

Flat track.York super City drowning in history…..nice people,no snobbery……

Take note when a trainer like John Gosden prefers it to southern tracks….

Also the favourite for Michael Stoute….

The Nassau has been g1 for many years.

Ask the top owner, trainer and rider, think they’ll say York all day tbh…..
Report Cider August 16, 2026 1:15 PM BST
When people refer to a 'big' meeting it's the perception overall isn't it. For me, GG is second in the pecking order of the flat season. No doubt that York has gotten bigger over recent years, but not yet usurped Goodwood for prominence in my opinion.

The bags are packed the suits are cleaned the shirts are pressed the shoes are polished looking forward to the best meeting of the year.
Good luck .
Hope you are all well.
Ronnie.

You're gonna be a bit late for RA, ronnie Grin

I would like to go to York at some point. Probably when Labour let me at my pension.
Report Ramruma August 16, 2026 1:25 PM BST
Labour? It was the Conservatives, and specifically George Osborne, who raised the pension age.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl August 16, 2026 1:27 PM BST
Grin Yes Cider me too. Would be a fab few days. Maybe ronnie r will enlighten us for a nice hotel package close to track. Not so easy to find winners doh.R. Fahey often would target it with a nice one, but he not getting many wins lately. Oisin Orr is flying and will surely be moving to a bigger yard full time soon.

A semi joke, but the jungle drums are beating that Burnham is planning to hike it up again. What's the opposite of sweet spot, as I was born in it! Black hole? It was meant to be 55 and now potentially 58.

Only thing I’ve never liked about Yorkshire is the ale, dreadful stuff….
Report windsor knot August 16, 2026 5:24 PM BST
we have someone suggesting goodwood is a better meeting than york and now another slagging off the beer in yorkshire . this is clickbait , wind up material or mental illness . not sure which .
Report Cider August 16, 2026 5:27 PM BST
I was opening the debate ;)

tbh I don't feel that there is a large differential, but it came up because the guests on rtv this morning confidently claimed that York was bigger. When I had to book time off work to view the festivals, I went for the two obvious ones plus GG.

Last time I went the mighty Tryptych powered home (in the Matchmaker International I think it was called) in the mud with Stevie Cauthen on board in 1987. Where has nearly 40 years gone?

Have been there more times than I wish to recall Ronnie. I used to have a joint with my brother at Winsford and St Helens greyhounds in the 80's. Enjoyed every minute but it was hard work and you could write a book on the characters that came and went.
Report ronnie rails August 16, 2026 8:11 PM BST
Mr S i swear this i true  we went to pick the pitch owner up but he was not in he was out window cleaning we were lat setting off we got stuck in traffick and was not going to get there in time for a pick the pitch holder managed to flag a moter bike down and get him there with minutes to spare.
Ronnie.
