The perils of I/R playing
Report Cider August 15, 2026 6:05 PM BST
She lost that whilst Mr Ward was gabbing away.
Report swiftynifty August 15, 2026 6:07 PM BST
1lb light won 1.5L 1.5lb a length over 12f maybe stewards discretion could have been applied. It was hardly 10lbs light.

Brutal, Mullins Horse hammered in the market to boot. Cool

Fortunately, there is usually F/A in the Market there
Report Angela Rebecchi August 15, 2026 6:13 PM BST
JPs money was down. Don't know enough about it, but any chance this isn't amended if you switch the 1 and 2 around? 1lb is an easily small difference to accidentally jot down as the correct weight perhaps if JPs well backed horse had come in 1st?
Report Angela Rebecchi August 15, 2026 6:13 PM BST
Can't remember the last time someone weighed in incorrectly, wonder what the stats are. 1 in 5,000?
Report uptheirons August 15, 2026 6:14 PM BST
There have been many,Angela

Lovely jubbly
Report Cider August 15, 2026 6:22 PM BST
She looks tiny, probably lumping around 2 stone in lead, wearing lots of stuff, protectors, helmet etc. And like I said, hanging around chatting to Ward on probably a warm enough day. Would be sweating off a fair bit.
Report uptheirons August 15, 2026 6:25 PM BST
Clutching at straws there,Cider.
A well backed JP horse is another matter over there
Report Cider August 15, 2026 6:28 PM BST
I think jockeys should get on with the business of weighing in, rather than chatting to media first. Rather, it's the media being selfish.
Report uptheirons August 15, 2026 6:31 PM BST
Correct but,you will never lose a lb by having a brief chat
Report Cider August 15, 2026 6:48 PM BST
Maybe, maybe not. Someone who weighs 7 stone lugging around 2 stone after riding a race, wearing an effective sweat suit on a hot day will be losing fluids. Maybe enough to tip a borderline case. Why risk it in such conditions.
Report uptheirons August 15, 2026 6:52 PM BST
Never mind.

Report Trident August 16, 2026 10:15 AM BST
Typical backed the winner! Any chance this gets looked at? Huge gamble on the JP horse?!!!!!
Report slickster August 16, 2026 10:25 AM BST
Wouldn't call it a "huge gamble". Don't really see how the win er got thrown out. Didn't they always allow for some leeway especially in summer. 1lb is very easy to lose from weighing out to weighing in. Something not adding up here.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps August 16, 2026 10:54 AM BST
The Raceday Stewards received an objection from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that Jessica O'Gorman, rider of Shirzan, placed first, weighed in at 130.8lbs having weighed out at 132.1lbs, meaning she was more than 1lb light on weighing in. Evidence was heard from the IHRB Clerk of the Scales and both the rider and trainer concerned. Jessica O'Gorman stated that she used the bathroom after weighing out and passed a large amount of faeces but could not account for any other weight loss. Trainer, Mr. P.G. Fahey stated that he could not account for the discrepancies in the weight. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards disqualified Shirzan in accordance with the provisions of Rule 231(i)(If a Rider cannot draw the weight at which they weighed out the Clerk of the Scales shall allow the Rider 1lb. If the Rider cannot then draw the weight, the Horse will be disqualified, the placings amended, and the stake forfeited) and amended result is as follows: 1st: Davy Crockett 2nd: Solness 3rd: Kaleo Ametsa 4th: Glittering Gem 5th: Aiteall Furthermore the Raceday Stewards ordered that Jessica O'Gorman forfeit her riding fee.
Report Trident August 16, 2026 10:56 AM BST
Although it was a speculative bet, I feel gutted! Anyone able to find any documentation on the leeway of a lb? Considering the humdity too.

There was alot of money here just before the off on the JP horse.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps August 16, 2026 10:58 AM BST
google ireland racing rules.
Report uptheirons August 16, 2026 11:00 AM BST
The permitted allowance is 1 lb and the jockey lost 1.3 lbs.
It really is as simple as that,Trident.
Harsh but fair
Report Cider August 16, 2026 11:06 AM BST
It's weird having decimals on imperial weights. If 0.1 is appx 45g, it was only 140 grams or 5 ounces over the limit.

So add in riding/sweating in the race, going to the bog, and farting around after the race in the sweat suit humping 2 stone of lead. The last bit could have tipped her over.

Personally I feel like there should be a correlation with the allowance and the temperature ie in conditions where the body will lose liquids at a higher rate, perhaps it should be 2lb. And get weighed asap in instead of farting around with interviews.
Report Cider August 16, 2026 11:09 AM BST
I feel like the hypothesis that it had something to do with who came second is batsh11t.
Report uptheirons August 16, 2026 11:13 AM BST
Quite possibly but there has to be permitted amount and it was exceeded
Report Cider August 16, 2026 11:18 AM BST
Things evolve don't they, and the rules need to evolve with them. For example load more female riders carrying much more lead. There's nothing untoward here and a winner has been chucked out through a technicality that could be avoided as the rules weren't necessarily appropriate for the conditions. Racing creates problems for itself too often.
Report Cider August 16, 2026 11:20 AM BST
They could easily do a proper analysis of it, and monitor exactly how much jockeys lose in the activities of racing between weighing out and back in again, and establish distribution. There are probably lots of times where they just get away with it in warm conditions.
Report uptheirons August 16, 2026 11:21 AM BST
Without Rules which are applied equally to everybody there is anarchy
Report Cider August 16, 2026 11:23 AM BST
They had to apply the rules. But they are created to stop cheating, not prevent people taking a lash or losing fluids in warm weather. So the rules need revisiting. In my view.
Report uptheirons August 16, 2026 11:25 AM BST
That is fine.

Did anyone get the traded figures for the winner/dq selection inplay? - I know ireland is lower than UK though, so small mercies I suppose.
Report Happy Jack August 16, 2026 1:33 PM BST
No sympathy here. It's a jockey's responsibility to maintain their body weight between weighing out and weighing in. If you feel like you need the lav after weighing out,  jump on some scales beforehand and once you're done weigh yourself again and have a drink/bite to eat to restore yourself to your previous weight.
