Last race tomorrow is off at 5:15....is it feasible to watch the last race and get to the train station for a 17:33 train

If so what would you suggest :

When getting a taxi to the course pre-racing dropping the driver a few quid so that he'd be waiting for me outside about 5:20 or just pre booking an uber for that time.

No its not.

The racecourse is at Durdar, outside of the City, there is a free bus but you have no chance with that, even if you get a taxi then it will be a push especially if the last race is late going off.

When I've been returning to the station, you get so far and then hit gridlock. There have been city centre roadworks for what seems forever.
Good luck and please let us know what time you get to the station after the 16.45 (which of course is 1m 6f instead of a sprint).

Traffic will be busy at that time but mostly coming out of the City, trains south are usually every half hour, watch the last and have a pint as well.Wink

Have a good day grayhawk.

Rather than pretipping the taxi driver wouldn't it be better to pretip the train driver?

Made the 17:33 and wasn't even trying for it Grin....had booked a later train.

Watched the last race on tv in the main entrance...watched them pass the line and made my way out, was thinking of getting the shuttle bus but only a few on and didn't want to sit about waiting for it to fill in next 20 minutes cos i fancied getting something to eat so crossed the road and got in the first taxi in a queue of about ten waiting...was more than halfway back to train station when had to stop for an accident where a low loader was putting damaged car on back.

Said to taxi driver i could have nearly made the earlier train as he was reversing and doubling back on himself, he said i'll get you there took me round a couple of back streets and was in the train station at 17:29 with time to grab a sandwich and a bottle of water

Well played Grayhawk. One of the few racecourses I haven't visited. I shall ask for your advice if I do.

No bother if i can be of any help...

Also you can see why people rave about the Tyne Valley...that train journey across the country is very scenic.

It's a lovely track, well worthy of a visit.

The uphill finish is much more severe than you'd think.
