A  Group 3 at Haydock and Newmarket and 6 handicaps at Ascot for Shergar Cup day plus 3 minor meetings.

Might just Double the Group 3 favs and watch my local Cricket Team with a few pints in the sunshine instead of the racing.

Don't blame you. This "shergar cup day" is always farcical.

evening, barstool.

This period - between Goodwood and York Ebor meetings - and especially this Saturday, has always been historically the worst time of the year for UK horseracing.

Several Reasons:

Only so many good horses 'to go around' - and they run at either Goodwood or York, or both - or the Deaville (Month), too.

Peter O'Sullevan always used to take this month, or more, off and go on his holidays to Deauville - leaving the irritatingly Nasal-sounding John Hamner to do the BBC TV commentaries - at what little racing the BBC covered.

Note how the fixtures are ar or around the Seaside/Holiday Tracks - We have just had 3 days of the Brighton 'Festival' - and racing at seaside Yarmouth, Redcar etc.

In those years gone by - before Summer Jumping - The National Hunt season re-started in August  at - Devon & Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plumpton, Fontwell, Only - all pretty much 'by the seaside'. (School Holidays)

Because this coming Saturday was always the worst Saturday of the year - in an effort to stimulate some betting turnover ....

- They invented - The Shergar Cup.

Whether that is/was an improvement, or not - remains in the eye of the beholder.

Basically, lots of money for rubbish. There are not enough excuses to cover all the bad weeks. Every week has loads of handicaps, you just get more runners in them at weekends. Sports falling apart.

Thanks for the enlightenment onlooker, just saw the cards and got a bit of a mundane feeling about them.

those in the lauds are infinitely more qualified intelligent experienced and sensible and less open to corruption than the 6th-rate wanchors next door

so labour is getting rid of most of them and only allowing life peers, ie politically partial nonentities who will toe the party line

There are some excellent members, and others just placed there for loyalty and being buddies of the blob. The system doesn't distinguish, as you may already be aware, the only requirement to collect the daily tax free payment is to show up.
