In the Mail today. A punter backed Spain to win the WC with J C.
He was not aware of the 2 markets 90mins and to lift the trophy.
When he was told that his bet was for 90mins and therefore a loser.
He complained.
They paid him out as a goodwill gesture.

He was very lucky then. Anyone could say they were not aware , gives them 2 chances of a return. One better odds than the other.
Wasn't Donald Trump was it?

True, Uptheirons. It is long established that ignorance of a rule or law is not a defence.

Should not have been paid under any circumstances. ALL bets 90 minutes play unless otherwise stated by the punter. So why was he paid?

He was paid to give some good publicity for J Coral in the Mail. Probably the bookie who informed the Mail. Cheaper to pay out a small win than advertise in the paper !

Why open a can of worms for a bit if free publicity?

Goodwill means there is no precedent set. They can just do it once.

I knew a guy who was a heavy, almost certainly a losing, gambler. One day he told me had put £500 on a golfer after the third round of a golf tournament with the Coates firm. The golfer pulled out the next day before starting his final round (illness) so he rang up and asked for his money back, they returned him as £250 as a goodwill gesture. Sensible move Grin

the important bit is missing. how much

theres a winning golf bet in a hills shop. geezer had 500 quid mickelson top us. golfer and he was 2nd. the geezer that beat him wasnt quoted on the list of about 25 so his bet is a winner and never claimed, despite attempted skulduggery

Possibly clever PR. Possibly shows how thick some of their punters are if they don’t know the difference between winning a game or actually winning the cup.

We’ve paid out on an odds on loser. Wow!
