Tend to agree GC, but it's been like it for years.

I don't play so much in the week unless it's a festival, more often than not lays and not a fan of AW anyway.

Arguably, weekends are even more bookmaker friendly. Even more handicaps, just with bigger fields.

Never understood it DD. All the books say concentrate on the better class races. But when it comes to having a bet, I prefer to have some confidence that half the field can't win. Saturdays I put my feet up and admire the quality, (with the sound off of course).

When I first started punting someone who knew a lot more than me said Saturday's were a bookies benefit.  I'm not sure Sunday racing was a thing back then.

Lot of people only bet Saturday's. Normal people who actually work Mon to Fri, unlike the forum posse.  Lot of them do their nuts.

The days when there are most bookmaker bonuses available are the days you should take a back seat.

Not sure the gap is much different from even 20 years ago or even before GC, it may well be , not that I have taken any notice tbf. Paul Kealy has an article about how the big handicaps have changed and if he is right it could back up what you say from the reasons he opines, partly due to the shrinking of the horse population.

If that one area is factual e.g he says about consolation races (Silver Cups etc) being scrapped and the main events failing to fill and being dominated by the same trainers and owners i.e exactly 50% of his sample being won by 5 yards. With the programme in general, the amount of racing must be having an effect midweek outside festivals so likely that you are right. Of course AW tracks swallow a fair percentage of the population and their cards appear to be healthier in numbers than turf counterparts.

From a punting perspective midweek is imo a much better alternative than Saturday Racing, you only have to look at the team compy stats to see how much more difficult the cards are for punters if that is a fair sample?

I would agree that the quality of midweek racing seems to have dropped. I tend to judge a race on how many of the mnames I recognise although of course that does not work with maidens and novice races. My memory may not be what it was but when I don't recognise the names of the top 4 in a handicap, I put a line through the whole race and that is happening more often. I had to look twice at the Listed Star Stakes to check that it really was run on a Thursday.

Newbury tonight - 2 x Class 4 and 4 x Class 5. Not even new. Grade 1 tracks putting on the sort of bookmaker fodder you might expect at the third rate tracks.

But it's not necessarily bookmaker fodder is it? You've contradicted your earlier post. My argument - that I'll die in a ditch for - is that these races are more punter friendly that a typical Saturday premier card.

The maiden/graded 2yo races today are high class but some of the handicaps are not much better than sellers.
