Slow pace or  fast  pace. Fast pace would suit the French horse  Calandagan. 4 runs at Ascot won 3 2nd once. beaten  twice at  Epsom( Coronation Cup). what will  O'Brian DO     .? Minnie Hauk Lambourn decent horses. SO many different ways the race will be  run all about
the MASTER OF BALLYDOYLE. One option  Lambourn could pave the  way last 3 furlongs for MINNIE HAUK. IN my opinion i don't  think Ascot will "suit" Benvenuto Cellini

They’re my favourite silks impossible. Was a great race!

I don’t know why Graffard said after that there was less time between races this year, his work rider had said that the extra time was good for him this year.

Too many horses in this years race for Calandagan to make up those lengths.

Lambourn finished closer there than he had at Saint - Cloud where he had slowed things up.

By the way I can help myself, but when you mock people and laugh at them, call them, “dipstick…” amongst other things and make presumptions don’t be surprised if it bites you in rear!

I’d pointed out that they ducked her you didn’t take any notice and no one knows what you backed or fancied!

The fact that Calandagan has ran how he has with zero excuses is very puzzling to me.
I didn't even flinch in the closing stages and I confidently expected him to nail her.

She's most likely found a few lbs improvement and after all...she got close to him last
year so it's possible that IS true form with no ifs or buts...though I'd like to see how
it further pans out in the coming months as I'm white-hot on Calandagan.

He does but maybe not as good as he was, I couldn’t see him beating Ombudsman again.

Report MANUELPADILLAJNR July 25, 2026 5:49 PM BST
When a mare improves you just never know how far they can go and with the arc at this stage looking not that strong 12-1 after today is not bad value, the soft ground wont bother her and with due regard to Lambourn he was actually given a chance today and remember he had also beaten Bay City Roller in May this year and that romped home in the Coronation Cup. Having watched the race again the winner won fair and square and if anything the one to take from the race is Benvenuto Cellini who has run a stormer and gone under the radar. He is another with progression who could go well in the arc, that said the worry there would be soft ground.
Report Delashay July 25, 2026 5:56 PM BST
I’d mentioned Lambourn beating Bay City, but he was in receipt of tins of weight that day.

I don’t think that she has improved but Calandagan has regressed, he’d of beaten West Wind Blows easier, Sunly & Caulificar last year.

Pen it has to be something, maybe she doesn’t like the downhill section?

Either way earlier in the year Balding said that the Arc wasn’t an aim but the Filly & Mares at Ascot.

She beat Quisisana3 1/4L at Ascot she was beaten over 9 by Daryz, Kap 7L it’s not good enough and you’re taking a little chance that soft ground and a better draw are going to help her as well as the improvement that is being touted.
Report Delashay July 25, 2026 5:59 PM BST

Its all about opinions but one thing I have learned over all the years is not to take the form of a race literally as in the majority of cases it just does not work out, this coming from someone who used to be an absolute form student for many many years, your right about Bay City Roller, another vastly improved horse this year who loves soft ground and has no problem with Longchamp, for me betting nowadays is all about value and in my opinion she rates decent value after today's race at 12-1, I am very aware also that she may not run but its worth a punt sometimes, it will be interesting if she heads to one of the arc trials or goes straight to the arc, that is if they do intend going, which after today would seem logical to me. Finally Colin Keane does not worry me at all.

Fair enough MP and it’s all about if you think that the price is right and you’re willing to chance it.  We can only use the form as guide as you say, agree.

With Bay City you might be right ABBA but some horses revel in the mud, he finds when others turn tail. Last time might have been his coming of age.
I mentioned him playing devils advocate because for as many horses will improve for soft, there’ll be another. People have put up Estrange for the same reason.

I understand Calandagan was rated the best horse in this race however, I think it was more to do with his performance in Meydan (petrol currency) or that part of the world. Yesterday's race was not run to suit him - it stretched its stamina to the limit - and neither was it for Minnie. The designated pace was meant for Ben but Ben's a slow boat. He's just not as good as AOB has been telling the easily deceived bookies sponsored pundits.

There was plenty of money for Kalpana yesterday, but I thought she'd prefer softer going. Similarly, Minnie. However, I'm very pleased for Mr Balding and Juddmonte. Prince Khalid Abdullah, Sir Cecil and Mr Harwood were the true gentleman of British horseracing, and a formidable trio. The former owned some very exceptional horses eg Dancing Brave, Enable, Warning, Rousillon and most outstanding and prolific winner of all the unbelievable and unbeatable Frankel. Frankel was a freak!

Interesting write up Impossible, I’d been ridiculed for suggesting that the stamina would be tested for Calandagan earlier on on here.

After a race I like to let things settle and see the take out in the cold light of day.

For me the race wasn’t as great as I’d hoped that it would be beforehand. The two Japanese were dismal, Goliath didn’t run up to his Hardwick showing, Minnie Hawk didn’t improve for the extra distance and is to me looking exposed now this year. Make no excuses for her.

She was beaten 4L by Ombudsman that’s a good guide, last year See the Fire was beaten that distance twice by him so maybe that’s as good as she is at 4?  3 strikes now at Group 1 this year.

Even Wurrtenburg should have been thereabouts as he was rated similar or the same as Lambourn.

With those four all underperforming I think that the run of Ben , “The big old boat” ( the original quote) which was mocked by pocket talkers at the time has been flattered somewhat. (He hung right again today something to consider if going left handed around a tight American track).

He looks to me Leger bound and this comment from AOB is interesting;

We know he gets a mile and a half well, but you couldn't be completely sure until he did it against the older horses. Even going through the line, he didn't look finished. We'll look at the Breeders' Cup with him."

The going is what might be holding his price up 12/1 10/1 and the fact that Christmas Day liked it. But Epsom wasn’t ever his course.
(On the going yesterday Adele said he’s still bulking out physically and it may have been that at TWO that both Action and Hawk Mountain were more ahead of him physically.)

So you confirmed exactly what I just said Delashay, what is your issue with that?
Report Delashay July 26, 2026 1:15 PM BST
You’re a hypocrite to accuse someone of something that you’ve admitted doing on another thread.

That’s not only slightly devious but pretty much chicken.

Irons can C&P his day but not his quote from this thread where he ever did that there’d be no bet on the race by him!

It’s not the first time that he’s posted on a thread to claim to not betting on the race, why he’s here I’ll never know?!

My compy horse for today Foyles is Jumeirah Storm at Donc, 11/4 last night and as short as 6/4 now, 7/4 with 365, probably too short for you now tbf? As for the KG, more questions than answers for the whole field although the Japanese horse has more upside than most imo?

CagliariG 26 Jul 26 12:51
So unlike you I stated more questions than answers but had a token ew. How does that insinuate being in the know?

Delbert would argue that BLACK is white.
My 12.55pm post shows that I did not have a bet of any description on the KG.
No further time will be wasted on the tard

“It’s obvious that you done your conkers hence your rampage after which resorted to racism afterwards.”

Yet another poster with supposed clairvoyant powersLaugh
I was never going to back in the race as I stated.

That was your statement this morning you were asked where on this thread you had stated that you never intended to have a bet in the race.

I.e. a typed out sentence.

You haven’t been able to show that!

So please keep to your word here, “ No further time will be wasted on the tard.”

Save your cheap petty insults and lack of bottle to discuss any race beforehand.

Anyone reckon they'll run Lambourn in the Lonsdale Cup at York ? Much better run yesterday and it looked like it would get further.

Love how AOB pre race when interviewed said he hoped all runners would get a clear run

Said with a straight face and zero sense of irony

TCat would York be his track would be my first thought. Deffo seems like a step up is in order.

Coys he hasn’t the sense of decency to remove his shades so not surprised!

Phil Cunningham when interviewed last week did.

Anyone thought if Botti regretted not running Gia yesterday? Has beaten the winner twice. Last and this year.
Report MANUELPADILLAJNR July 26, 2026 6:21 PM BST
Can I just say as someone who posts infrequently this name calling stuff just gets us nowhere and stops people who might want to post about horse racing from doing so as nobody wants to be slagged off continually, maybe just stick to horse racing and cut out all the childish nonsense that's being posted, by the way no names mentioned, its just ridiculous on a horse racing forum to be doing this.
