We often say at Sheffield Wednesday that the players try and defend by putting 11 men back and when the ball comes they just say “ kick it ! ,kick it , anywhere. “
The ball then just comes back and they panic and kick it anywhere again. You can guess the result. Its exactly what England did after they scored. You can't panic your way to a world cup final . For once Rooney and Shearer are talking sense. |
|
By:
Agreed. In a situation like at 1-0 with Argentina pushing on, it would've been better to be positive. With Kane gassed, we had no outlet so the ball kept coming back all the time and we couldn't clear our lines. Mainoo and Watkins would have been better subs (Mainoo for his ability on the ball in tight spaces and Watkins to add energy up top).

if england held on tutchel would have been knighted...its a tuff ole game..same as gambling..a nose can ruin your life.

Can't knight a German, imo
|

By:
Had they held on they would have won by default. But they never were going to hold . Argies hit post twice.
They could have scored 5 against those tactics |

Tuchel
Reaching the semis was a great achievement. Something most teams can only dream about. |
|
By:
It was a gutless spineless embarrassment of a performance by the England team. Gordon scored in the 51st minute and the first sub was in the 71st minute during which time the balls constantly in the England half with no endeavour no enterprise and no idea of how to get a second goal being shown. The players folded under pressure instantly. Sat back, were passive and just hoped that they wouldn't score a goal utterly pathetic performance by the team. And what a surprise the former England players who now try to pass themselves off as pundits, who were all part of former squads who displayed exactly the same type of performance, blame the manager when they fail to analyze why after going one up the players sat back. Capitualting under zero pressure. Instantly forgetting that upto and including the goal we were shading the game. Shearer, Rooney, hart and Richards have controlled the narrative blaming the manager. Takes the accountability off of the people whose job it was playing the game. Players put tuchel in an impossible position.
|
|
By:
I agree with that, the narrative is almost as if he made the changes immediately after we scored, he didn't, he saw us fall back to our own penalty box for 15 minutes before he thought, f00k me, we've given up here and then he made the changes to try and sure things up.
Having said that, he could just as easily have grabbed hold of the situation after we scored and seeing us retreat could have done something to get us up the field, instead he sat and watched it happen. Kane was a passenger for the whole second half, why he remained on the pitch is a total mystery, surely someone with legs as an out ball is just common sense, Kane could barely move. It was utter capitulation, we handed the initiative to Argentina on a silver platter. |

Couple things for me I think is the mentality we aren't strong enough and questioning Tuch authority was poor. should be one strike and out whoever you are shows a deep disrespect that was defo poor. Illustrates We are not a team we don't play as a team is no go always sideways or back is no on field authority or leadership we couldn't have come back with the whizz Argie's did they never looked like losing one down. As Tuch said hindsight is wonderful so who knows. He shut up shop or tried to we don't have the world class to defend leaving harry M out was a disaster darling. the right side defending was dross some you win some you lose. bigger thing is who appoints the Manager something is wrong isn't it clearly looking back. We miss a Big Harry somebody who can connect and somebody like chopper Harris or Norman bite your legs. We just are not good enough.

I have lost count of the times I have backed a team who have a 1-0 lead are in control and then sit back and concede a goal. It has happened or the last 50 years plus. We used to think the Italians were clever for playing that way.

Helps if you can defend, Italians and Arsenal under George Graham were masters at it! Tutchel not so

With national team managers, surely it's better if they are actually from that country
They feel the same sense of pride and desire to do well for their country as the players they are picking Otherwise, it's just another job...PSG,Chelsea,England...stay a couple of years, win a couple of trophies (club ones in his case)...get big payoff to leave...rinse and repeat Got the same feeling with Sven in charge Gareth was different, although perhaps not as technically good as some foreigners |
|
By:
Tuchel should have learnt his lesson from 2 years ago when in charge of Bayen Munich in the champions league final, took Kane off put a defender on and Real Madrid scored 2 goals in the last 5 minuets.

It's highly likely Spain will show us how beatable the Argies are.
|
|
By:
We gifted them the opportunity to get back into it.
Ultimately it was more than about winning a game and getting into the final for them, a thing called national pride. |
|
By:
A boxer controls the center of the ring, in rugby it’s about pitch position kicking to play in the opponents half, in American football you have to make 10 yards sometimes only a yard at a time, we gave away far too much ground and let them play where they wanted to be without a fight to get there.

I thought when he selected Jordan Henderson
as player/ mascot for the squad things didn’t look good for England, and he bottled it under pressure like the Southgate,Henderson woke brigade. |

I think Argentina are a good thing to lift it (unfortunately)….Spain beat a flat France as we all know…..
Nice bottle of wine to enjoy the game….. |

He took a lot of stick due to the "talent" he left at home.
Not been in charge long and got to a World Cup semi.......yes he made mistakes but hindsight is a wonderful thing .....has already equalled Southgates World Cup achievements...... i'd see how he does in the Euros and probably another World Cup. ![]() |

I'd back England for the Euro because of Tuchel. I think he'd to make the decisions he made yesterday. England looked tired probably still recovering from their taxing exertions against Mexico (altitude) and Norway (heat). Also, Argentina last played on 7th while England 11th.

Anyone who thinks that he doesn’t deserve the bullet is misguided. He failed miserably when it mattered.
Yes we got to a semi final, we were ranked 4th, with the draw and ranking we got where we should have, with the talent that we have. Throughout the tournament he’s replaced like for like. Put fresh legs on and kept the tempo and attacking threat up. There he sat whilst the Argie manger took the initiative when the game had changed replacing with three sets of fresh legs. He took of Gordon for Konza! Kane, Bellingham, Roger’s were all out on their feet, Saka sat on the bench, Manduke, Rashford, Watkins, Marino. He wasn’t brave enough to go for the win against a team whose two center halves were on red cards and looked petrified when we ran at them. When Rice went off he had NO replacement for him,’cos his man Henderson was injured! That he even took Henderson who starts only as a sub these days and basically saw Southgate scolded for putting him on in the final against Italy when they were on the rack is also SACKABLE. All in all his squad was his choice and I didn’t rate as posted after the announcement, but I got behind the team. Leaving Palmer who was made for a game like that, to run at them and get foul after foul was unfathomable! Leaving Shaw a natural left footer at left back and Slab a threat from corners or set pieces with his experience a mistake. But the biggest mistake was stopping Anderson man marking Messi in the second half and cutting out the balls that were causing the problems! Total change of tactics against a team who were going to use him to get back into it, given free reign. |
