So it’s that time of year when we can look at form and discuss the merits of those currently at the top of the market.

Let’s play the game fair but still enjoy the summer season left, whilst looking ahead….

I've rowed in with Diamond Necklace, assuming she goes for this. Then maybe Maltese Cross, if the former assumption is awry, and an outstanding 3yr old emerges from one of the ARC Trials.

Con River will never go for this. It's just not in the dna of Coolmore.

Thank you H-H you’ll post this wager should he win or place on the day?

I wasn’t taken by the win today Impossible, despite the penalty, Pierre looks too slow for hurdles, he’s won 2 from 8.

Other formlines are being forgotten even if they are still standing up and there are some massive over reactions by the books on recent races.

That Ben finished so close in the King George should be a worry for Kaplana backers, after the runs of AOB’s in the Volt today.

Pierre ran well. At least he beat Moore. But, he's another US Army Ranger. A plodder!

I might give Minnie Hauk another chance in the Yorkshire Oaks tomorrow. The last time she was not ridden to achieve her best. She was a side dish - a facilitator for Ben - a slightly better plodder than Pierre. But, I bet AOB / Coolmore charges with big reservations.

The one issue with her is the other potential runners from the same owner, but Balding was non committal about Kap on Saturday to Trapman, or with Item.
She’s also entered for the Royealleu so that would be another concern for backers but she’s gone out past 200 now.
Report Delashay August 24, 2026 9:11 AM BST
There’s another formline from those mares but the horses run style means that a win would be very difficult, but it’s a nice EW price having been forgotten.

Look at this quote editing from the RP re: Diamond,

AOB (RP)

“She ran well, but the winner was better than her today,†said O’Brien. “We were very happy with her going into the race and the ground was not a concern.
“We'll take her home now and see how she comes out of the race.â€

Yes they go on to mention that she’s entered over all distances but it’s not what was said! Crazy

Aidan O'Brien, coach of Diamond Necklace (2nd)

«She ran well, but the winner was stronger than her today. Before the race, we were very happy with his form and the ground was not a concern... We will take it home and see how it recovers. It could be extended this fall to 2,400 meters.â€

Funny that how they manipulate the actual words said!

It’s the End of an Era,

It was this morning, at the stroke of 10 o'clock, that Jean-Claude Rouget, 73 years old, confirmed to his colleagues the rumour that had been circulating for a few weeks: the stable will cease its activity on 25 September.  “If there has been no call for tenders from a buyer, the company will be liquidated by court order,' said the coach to our correspondent, Philippe Hourcadette, in the morning. This will appear on Friday in the newspaper of Les Échos.â€
If they had prepared for it, it would obviously be a blow to all employees, who had already seen their Deauville colleagues leave the company when the Normandy branch closed in the autumn of 2024. This sad conclusion is only the last stone in a series of misfortunes that began with the withdrawal of the coach in the spring of 2024. Should have followed the false information announcing the association of Jean-Claude Rouget with Jérôme Reynier, which would lead to the departure of many owners, including the Aga Khan casaque, placed in front of the fait accompli and the end of the Deauvillaise structure. Still radiant at the beginning of spring, the stable Rouget plunged in the space of a few weeks into the night and uncertainty.
Yet, despite more limited means, Jean-Claude Rouget continued his mission. Arrow Eagle entered the winners' list of the 2025 Prix Royal-Oak and Leffard won the Grand Prix de Paris that same year. This same Leffard, dressed in the colors of the faithful Gérard Augustin-Normand, distinguished himself once again in the recent Prix d'Ispahan (2nd), last group I podium of a stable that is now living its last hours.

wish him the best, a great trainer one of favourites.

Great shame Jean-Claude Rouget will no longer be training post Sept 2026. He's a true gentleman, a very good trainer and true to his words about the targets of his star horses. I believe his health has not been good recently.

His most recent ARC winner Ace Impact was my next best ARC winner after Treve.

I wish Mr Rouget well. A great loss to horseracing. Happy retirement Mr Rouget.

Update,

After Pearled Majesty last week, it’s Daryz who was taken on the turf of Deauville to prepare for her return. It will be in the Prix Foy (Gr. II), on 6 September at Longchamp, four weeks before the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr. I). After following the progress of his two leaders, Shadirwan and Ebiyar, Daryz broke away very easily, hardly asked by his partner Mickaël Barzalona. “As you know, he has not run since Royal Ascot, recalled Francis-Henri Graffard, his mentor. He is quite massive and has a lot of character. I thought it was important to bring him back in "race mode" during a canter, in order to really get him back into the swing of things. Everything went perfectly well today. He behaved very well, it’s very positive. He can still be quite authoritarian in his attitude. I think he was quite authoritarian and that he will get well in shape after this exercise. He is a bit overweight right now, so I think it will be very beneficial.â€

Sosie certainly won't get to run in the Arc and it's not certain whether he will run again. He's been a wonderful horse and we'll be looking for a place at stud. Aventure will stay over a mile and a quarter and head to the Prix de l'Opera barring a dramatic change in circumstances. Oracle needed the run badly in the Prix de Reux and while he will run again in the autumn, he doesn't seem like an Arc horse. Rumouriste might run in the Prix Niel but again I'm not sure that he has shown enough to go to the Arc.

There’s another horse who is over odds who has also been long forgotten, the form is there, recent updates did say no run at Deauville unless it’s really soft.

Hoping it shows in a trial, as think that it’s an EW on the form with room to improve for the soft going and a fast ran race.

If it’s entered to run and updates are showing intent to do so I’ll make a case for it. Don’t expect much in the trial run however so the price should hold up.

Chris Richardson, managing director for Cheveley Park, said: "While Estrange has not had ideal conditions, with the very dry summer, it's been decided to retire her to the paddocks. Estrange suffered some bone bruising during her last race, which meant she has had to have an easy time since and, although an autumn campaign was being envisaged, time is running out to have her fully fit therefore Mrs Thompson feels, as she has won her Group 1, it is time for her to retire to the paddocks.

Have you looked at her OR’s and compared them to this and last year? Confused

Her KG winning OR was 120 this year, heading into the Arc after being beaten by Botti’s G last year she was on 122.

Her last run is rated 125, 5lb better than anything this year, but only 3lb above her figure last year and the narrative after the KG was that she’d improved.

The OR’s don’t match that.

She beaten over 7L last year in the Arc, is a 3lb increase on last year going to be enough and migrants have last time taken the edge off of her?
Report brandyontherocks August 28, 2026 5:19 PM BST
If the ORs were perfect, all we would have to do is back the top rated every time.

I find, especially in non handicap National Hunt races, that the market is normally formed around ORs which gives great betting opportunities.

I agree with you about timing her run. Circumstances fell kindly for her in the George and hopefully Keane has learned from this.
I do not blame him at York for going so early to chase down the pacemaker who looked at one stage to have gotten away from them.

She is a tremendously consistent horse. Her run in last seasons Arc can be marked up as she ran in the slop on the outside the whole way. Unlike Daryz and Minnie who ran on the fresh ground on the rail.

The draw as always will be important.

Ah fk it, on Sunday there’s a big race in Baden Baden, where Botti’s Giavellto goes.

Against him is a 3yr old called Bright Light, who has an Arc ambition.

He was catching Presscott’s mare Tiffany last time out with Tornado Alert in behind.

Whether this colt is fully wound up for this I don’t know?

But should the Godolphin colt win Saturday or run well then things or odds of 150/1 might look mad in the year of an open arc.

Out of interest Sadcrooks had him in at 100/1 but had the last time that I looked removed him from their market.

Whilst he was pushed out by other firms here has him the same @66/1

He’s stamina laden, loves soft and goes against another formline on Sunday.

He’s rated 118 or 119

Toreceto Tasso was rated the same when he won the ARC
