Possibly because he is an attention seeking ego maniac? I would have thought people on this forum might be able to work that out.

Wants the electorate to double down on their support for reform after the media repeatedly try to accuse him of wrong doing and he's very angry about "The Times" publishing a picture of where his daughter lives and Sky news hounding her, he's very very angry.

An Independent MP or run as the candidate for Reform? Apart from being infamous as the MP for Clacton I think Mr Farage has done nothing tangible or good for Clacton and the people of Clacton. All he's done is to self-promote and live a life of Riley using political funds.

Farage might be too clever for his own good.

Standing down to fight a by-election, even if he wins, will not stop the standards inquiry into his undeclared payments. So we might end up with:-

Farage resigns.
Farage wins by-election.
Standards committee triggers a recall petition which triggers a by-election.
Farage has to fight and win a second by-election in a couple of months.
Report impossible123 July 7, 2026 4:36 PM BST
Mr Farage could be the only candidate for this election in Clacton. The genuine Clacton by-election will be after the investigation and determination of the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner (PSC) on his undeclared "gifts" by a crypto-billionaire and a convicted fraudster.

I hope the other major political parties will not contest the Clacton by-election in August (possibly funded by Reform) until after the PSC have completed their investigation on these donations.

Absolute clown show because he won't listen to advice.

It looks increasingly likely Mr Farage will contest his own seat against Count Binface (who?) and the Green Party. Labour, Conservative and LibDem are absentees, according to the betting market.

An own goal by Reform, and Mr Farage. Credibility = Zero
Report differentdrum July 8, 2026 9:03 PM BST
According to Oddschecker Farage was 1/6 with William Hill (now 1/7) - how much are they allowing at that price, presumably a tenner if you are lucky? Everyone knows it's a certainty. Pleased all the major parties have withdrawn and pulled the rug from under Farage's attention seeking stunt. He continually plays the multi-millionaire 'man of the people' act and the not so great British public are stupid enough to fall for it, but for how much longer?

dd, the reason other parties are not fielding candidates is that they know they couldn't win.

It would actually be a good thing if Count Binface was to win because he would fit right in at the HoC with all the other perennial losers.

leif -- "Instead of asking the police, HMRc, standards committe to judge him..."

That's the daft part. If Farage wins, he will still face the parliamentary standards investigation when he gets back, which might lead to yet another Clacton by-election. Farage's stunt does not make the investigation go away, it just delays it a few weeks.

Do you not think if he gets the electorate to come out in large numbers and give him a resounding victory,e.g 60%+ of the electorate the establishment parties would lose a lot of support if they have another election?
Report impossible123 July 9, 2026 9:55 AM BST
Would you vote for him if you're a Clacton electorate? Someone who was "gifted" £5m - no string attached apparently. I think MPs need to be deselected and bar from becoming an MP if a sitting MP fails to declare a personal "gift or donation" whilst in public office and receiving a wage from the taxpayers.

Was a Labour MP not benefited from a "donation" of an expensive property in London by her aunt or relative who was deposed as the leader of Bangladesh not long ago? She pled ignorance, but resigned from a junior ministerial post but not deselected or barred from public office.
Report lead on July 9, 2026 10:17 AM BST
I think most of the Clacton electorate would vote for him, this coming election and the next one,if there is one..in fact would the required no. in Clacton vote to deselect him?
Report dpm July 9, 2026 10:17 AM BST
The £5 million gift was given before he became an MP, he asked Parliament when he became an MP if he needed to declare the gift and was told no he didn't  as it was a personal gift and not a donation to Reform UK. You all need to wake up and realise the establishment are not coming for him they are coming for us.

LOL. Reform activists are being diverted from the Manchester mayor election (to replace Andy Burnham) where Reform have a good chance, in order to prop up Farage's vanity poll in Clacton.

Winning the mayoralty would deal a huge blow to Labour and Burnham. Clacton, well, Farage will win anyway and only the margin is in question. Then we can do it all again in the autumn.

Is there no-one with even half a clue?

I do not believe a total stranger would give £5m to Mr Farage unless there's a verbal reason for the "gift". Mr Farage could use the £5m as a "severance" pay.

The Labour MP Ms Tulip Siddiq whose aunt was the PM of Bangladesh for yonks, then ousted, absconded to a foreign country and later charged with embezzling state funds of over $1bn. Ms Siddiq pled ignorance, but refused to return to Bangladesh to answer charges levied by the Bangladeshi government.

UK Plc is being used as a conduit or facilitator by an MP of the UK to fraudulently obtain an expensive property from a deposed, crooked and corrupt leader of Bangladesh.

This is a bigger gamble than it appears. You can get an internet message go around get Farage out, if there is a poor turnout, he could get ousted. Brexit got over the line, I voted in favour of leaving, however feel we won the vote owing to apathy and nobody believing that the leavers could win. If all the younger people got off their rears and voted for a joke, he could lose. Do I think he will LOSE...NO.

Dixie I voted for it and would again, however there was apathy and did help. When people have a cause they are more inclined to make the effort. Thats life. Happened in the local elections for Councillors, so may thought our local lad was a shoe in so left it to everyone else to vote. Everyone else did not vote and he missed out. The house next to us had Remain in the window, and said my ilk were wrong. Admitted later, despite the rhetoric, 4 adults none voted.
