I'm sure Rico would agree with Simon. So do I , when I majored on each way doubles I had an edge before the bookies finally closed that door.

The Result being swiped 10 seconds before the On Course Announcement was enough for me to stop reading further

Years later I found out, or at least was told why, some clever guys in the midlands describing themselves as ‘Internet Entrepreneurs’ had found a way to grab the live pictures from racecourses when markets were suspended off the TV giving themselves up to 10 seconds advantage over players at home, imagine that, literally finding it on the floor, especially if that’s where a leader ended up at the last. They had found an edge.

By:

When: 05 Jul 26 22:35
'clever guys from the midlands' is an oxymoron but its not total bollox

a handful of people swiftly recognised that there was a time-lag between sis and atr and between terf tv and ruk (as was) so they put up dishes to grab the pics

and at the time i/r was a novelty that everyone thought they were great at and markets were full of liquid. for a couple of years it was free money for those who had the pics, until it slowly dried up, for obvious reason

a handful hit the jackpot at no risk but too many did it in

then the courses put in fibre and undercut the pics. and hd came in. then the facetimers and droners and its now busted

i was one of the 1st to have the live feed..advantage was 2 secs...but was enuff to win me 10k a week over 20yr ago..and its busted becos in running there is quids in every box that morphs into pences inside the last 3f.
oh the good times Blush
By:
Busyfool
When: 05 Jul 26 23:33
theres a reason its busted

who nose what might have evolved if notfair had thought about the pic problem earlier?  although they had plenty to worry about and probably didnt prioritise it

i suspect there would be enough players now if they hadnt been rogered 20 odd years ago but thats specualtion

i used to berate the 101 merchants for making it so obvious but the wanchors wouldnt listen. they wouldnt leave a penny and advertised the advantage rather than leaving 20 quid for someone else
By:

When: 05 Jul 26 23:41
and if you made 10k a week you must have been behind others. i know of some who made a lot more than that, 10k a day
By:

doin what ydc? i got every penny 1.1 > 1.01 every race.
By:
Busyfool
When: 06 Jul 26 00:52
and thats why you left yourself open to a wacky event and would win small for a ton of races and then lose plenty on a black swan

maybe they were a bit smarter with their advantage and saw the value at 2 or whatever and made a lot more for less risk

and laying fallers, which i know was a big earner
By:
Hugo-Hackenbush
When: 06 Jul 26 00:58
i know people who laid fallers on the phone..they only could operate during the jumps season..ive seen them go 2 weeks without a click...you're in cloud cuckoo land tolo.

When: 06 Jul 26 01:18
you should join me. its rather nice

you are so fick its odd. forget the phone. i can only assume you were not at the head of the queue or too dim to take the value rather then the certainty

i was late to the game, as a pc wasnt for me and i didnt get the interweb at all. for 6 months my bets were phoned in

i was such a mug for about a year. when i finally worked it out the glory days were gone but i still managed to do well, and lay plenty of fallers. dunno what you were looking at

all i got to know subsequently could not believe their good fortune and have largely given it up

and your claims above are fantasy island stuff...and complete unsubstantiated spurious, utter nonsense.
By:
Busyfool
When: 06 Jul 26 01:54
they are not my claims

i stated plainly i wasnt at the head of the game but others were. and i cottoned on later then they

hardly giving it large is it?

for some reason you are doubtful that others did very well when the going was easy, dunno why as you were at the forefront yourself

i can hardly substantiate fro others. maybe they are all liars but i doubt it

What you learn through betting maturity is that any edge (for normal people) is time limited. At its peak, it feels like it will never end. But invariably does.

It works both ways as you come to realise, if you are lucky enough to identify another one, that the pressure is on to squeeze the most out of it as possible. Therefore it can lead to grave errors. Identifying the edge is not enough, it has to be allied to discipline and pragmatism. I have known people to have an edge, and still blow it due to hubris. Yes, it has happened to me.
