calandagan should win but very short and a flimsey line with bay city roller gives caulifer a squeek also sunly looks a decent price both small ew /win 3 places for me
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 3:45 PM BST
caulificar 2nd sunley 3rd win woulda been nice but thatll do
Report Angela Rebecchi July 5, 2026 3:46 PM BST
Thought it was going to stick it's neck out and grab the win for a bit. Nice run though.
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 3:50 PM BST
added a bit of excitement angela worked out  better than backing the fav to win.
Report differentdrum July 5, 2026 3:52 PM BST
Not sure how much substance there would have been in any link with Bay City Roller given the ground difference?

Cualificar had been very disappointing. How much has that been down to the handicap of the woeful Buick? Much stronger, and better rider today, and much better performance.
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 4:00 PM BST
yeah it was a flimsy line but caulificer beat bay city roller on bay citys prefered  soft going so the  raw ability is there  , fav was too good in the end but i had a run for my money .

You seem to have a knack of getting good price places in these French(and German earlier)races
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 4:04 PM BST
i wish lead on, no i  just do the ew singles with some firms  and win and places on here .
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 4:11 PM BST
not really the right time of year for me lead on  in the british racing as i find the favs and front of the market tend to dominate the races i play in so its more  a case of hoping  not expecting to get the win and hoping i can get a few decent places ,i do like the french and european graded /listed races as the odds on the lesser fancied runners are often too big and it gives ya a chance .
Report punchestown July 5, 2026 4:14 PM BST
Thought the winner had too much to do turning in but kept finding.
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 4:21 PM BST
yeah he is classy and was on his prefered going but there isnt a great deal between these top class horses certainly not the 14 pound the fav had in hand on the official ratings .

Earlier in the year Graffard had said that Sunly could be an Arc filly.

Better run from Fabre’s today and a nice win for Calandagan.

I’m not sure it lines up as a top notch race however, but Sunly is lightly raced I suppose, she’s been entered over 2800m which I thought interesting.
Report FOYLESWAR July 5, 2026 5:53 PM BST
was a good run by sunly and she is very lightly raced and open to more improvement looked a possible winner for a time just run out of it close home ,thanks for the arc info from grafford didnt know he said that.gonna start building an arc portfolio .

No worries Foyles but keep in mind the entry over further, could be entered for the 1m 7f prix Royal Oak later in the year.

She likes Saint - Cloud, when she was beaten in the MALLERET by Qilin Queen she was ahead of Rabbits foot who beat Prescott Tiffany the time before.

She was routed on soft in Germany by Bay City Roller.
Report Delashay July 5, 2026 7:59 PM BST
She had left us with a frustrating first defeat on July 13 at Longchamp in the Prix de Malleret (Gr. II), where she lost by the narrowest of margins to the English horse Qilin Queen. Back on her feet, Sunly kicked off her 2026 campaign on May 1 in the Prix Allez France (Group III, 2,000 m), which was moved this year to the Val d’Or racetrack.

Ridden patiently by Christophe Soumillon, the elegant chestnut mare with broad white socks showed her class down the stretch to dominate a high-caliber field. “She did that on sheer class,” confirmed her trainer, Francis-Henri Graffard. “She’s more of a 2,400-meter horse. She accelerated all the way down the stretch—she’s truly very good. She proved her quality last year; it shouldn’t have ended so soon.

The goal is to win a Group I race against fillies—it could be the Prix Vermeille or the Yorkshire Oaks. In the short term, we’ll either stay in France and run in the Prix Corrida (Group II on May 24), or we’ll try to go to Ireland or England. Could she be a Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe contender? Yes, I think so… The year is long, and this is already a very strong start to the season. I didn’t expect such a great performance from her.”
Report Delashay July 5, 2026 8:01 PM BST
He’s talking about her win over 10f, having the class to do so, he’d seen her as a Ribbledale/Irish Oaks type at 3.
Report Delashay July 5, 2026 8:03 PM BST
Adventure’s run today wasn’t great, the trainer had wanted to run her in Ireland in the Pretty Polly over 10f but didn’t travel ‘cos of the heat.
So I’d put a bit of line through it.

Sunly looks a good ground horse with her action.

Wouldn't be an Arc antepost play for me.
Report Delashay July 6, 2026 9:13 AM BST
Just passing on the info about how well she’s thought of Brandy, other conclusions can be drawn from it, she’s not for me either.
She likes Saint - Cloud as she’s shown.

Godolphin were delighted with theirs.

The Aga / Graffard team :

Yet the outcome was by no means a foregone conclusion. The Anglo-Irish duo of Lambourn and Eydon set a steady pace. While the favorites gradually closed in, Calandagan remained at the back of the pack. In the final turn, doubts began to surface as Cualificar, Aventure, and Sunly went on the offensive. But Mickaël Barzalona hadn’t budged. “It was almost worrying to see him ride so calmly,” smiled Nemone Routh, racing manager for Aga Khan Studs in France, afterward. “Mickaël knows him perfectly and knew exactly what he had on his hands. When he accelerates on fast ground, he produces an incredible burst of speed over 400 or 500 meters. From the saddle, Mickaël says it feels like he’s never going to stop. It’s just extraordinary. Above all, we’re happy to have rediscovered the real Calandagan.” Moving out to the middle of the track 400 meters from the finish, Calandagan picked up speed. In just a few strides, he left the entire field behind before confidently edging out Cualificar, who finished a strong second under the inspired riding of Pierre-Charles Boudot.

The tenacious Sunly, also trained by Francis Graffard, rounded out the podium after maintaining her effort remarkably well. “She ran very well. In the parade ring, she looked magnificent. Sunly had a good race, right behind the leaders, and she finished very strongly. At one point, I even thought she was going to win. The Prix Vermeille was one of the options, but the Yorkshire Oaks is also a possibility,” the Cantilian trainer said.

Maybe since she's Juddmonte owned, she'd only run if anything happened to Kalpana?
Report Delashay July 6, 2026 11:12 AM BST
Andriy, Balding has said earlier this season that the Arc isn’t her objective, the Filly and Mares again is at Ascot.
Report Delashay July 6, 2026 11:14 AM BST
I’m wary when a trainer says that a G1 against fillies is the objective, as has been said for Sunly, with the Vermille statement and YOaks.

They’d said the same for Aventure.

The Arc can’t be an afterthought.
Report Andriy July 6, 2026 11:21 AM BST
I'd have thought they'd go for both, the Arc run last year didn't seem to affect her for Ascot, and if she'd got a better draw  (and ride?) she may have placed.

Now looking at the exchange market, Sunly 75? Kalapana 40+ ...my gut would be that both a bit high, but when you look at the other potential runners quoted at 20+, maybe not?
Report Delashay July 6, 2026 11:29 AM BST
I can only relay what I’ve heard whilst watching ITV, the prices are based on who’s winning now, not who’s aiming where.

On her form in a big field I’m not sure that an Arc would suit her it’s also a year later.

That’s probably why they are more realistic about her expectations.

There’s a big race which might be interesting regarding the Arc. I hope that the potential battle doesn’t occur then and there’s some avoiding going on until the Arc trials weekend.
Report Delashay July 6, 2026 11:52 AM BST
We have the Grand Prix Du Paris coming up & Deauville, two of the French have come out of the Prix Du Jockey Club and won races, Daryzan & Pearled Majesty who weren’t able to run their best at Chantilly.

Alam was finishing just as strong as A Boy Named Suzy, Dolmalan ran a big race considering where he was throughout.

Lots been written off and often as Foyles will agree I expect French horses are bigger priced than ours because of a bias.

There’s others too who I could mention but the current market doesn’t represent what we see in terms of formlines.
Report Delashay July 7, 2026 4:50 PM BST
Even on that run of Sunly you’d have to ask why they’d run Kaplana as she was beaten further by Calandagan, albeit not on her ground.
