It's in Merseyside and has been since the great local govt reorganisation of 1974. I suspect most people would still consider it as being in Lancashire though. Why IS it being run at Newmarket ? Is Haydock temporarily closed ?

Haydock is for local gov't/administrative purposes in Merseyside but is STILL considered part of Lancashire here in the North-West as are both Liverpool and Manchester.

The 2007 Lancashire Oaks was relocated to Newmarket due to the cancellation of the original fixture at Haydock Park.
The event had to be moved after track officials identified significant ground issues and potential voids under the racing surface.
