Any side is entitled to struggle against low blocks, it's the hardest thing to break through in the game, if Spain and Portugal with their superior technical players can't break down the might of Cape Verde and Congo, we are every bit entitled to struggle against Ghana.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 4:30 PM BST
The trouble is we are a team of runners. With no creatives.

The manager is at fault, he played Anderson 5 yards off of centre halves who can themselves carry the ball forwards.

He had no need to play him knowing that they’d be that defensive.

He’s left a player here who can hit the passes that he wants (the early ball) in Warthon of Palace.

Also a player in Palmer who can create from nothing, be it a dummy to create space or from having a shot creating something from the keeper not catching.

The only player who’s looked like he has an edge is Sakka.

It’s the same old where is Kane to feed it too up top and last night we saw the hands in the air and egos surfacing.

Too many on the pitch pointing where the ball should go instead of playing it and moving.

Anderson is over rated in the extreme, not his fault, Gordon has the look of a sulker who believes he’s better than he is  which is is a one trick pony, totally predictable and why he was marked out of it.

Bellingham wouldn’t be anywhere near my team, he gave the goal away trying to get a foul in the first game. That was almost replicated by EZE last night trying to get a foul when they broke and shoulda had a penalty. He’s a liability.

Not a lot to be positive about.

Well Spence has surprised me a lot and he’d be in to overlap with Sakka.

We miss Shaw on the left and slab at set pieces.

But who wants goals from them! Wink
Report howard June 24, 2026 4:52 PM BST
plenty of good stuff there dela  but although I am a big fan of Palmer he's been rubbish for months. Gordon and Mandueke not good enough. The latter looks like he can only shoot by sidefooting the ball.  Disagree with Jude apart from Rice our best player.  But he needs better to play with.  Saka and Rogers must play big parts.
Report duffy June 24, 2026 5:04 PM BST
You could substitute Palmer for another player out there last night and the result would have been the same, we lack technical excellence, we still haven't seen the like of Gascoigne in this country from 35 years ago, for all of Palmer's nice stuff, it would be primarily seen in an open game with "space" around him or when he can counter attack like the PSG game.

You're not allowed to take people on and beat them anymore unless it's down the flanks so you are reliant on quick passing and moving, receiving the ball and popping it off whilst under pressure, which unless you are Spain circa 2010, the greatest technical national team to ever play the game, then you are up against it, particularly in you are English.

Again, if Spain can struggle against Cape Verde, we are fully entitled too also.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 5:18 PM BST
You’re focusing on one player, we don’t have a natural left sided player playing, that down to the manager.

Bellingham wants to be everywhere, Kane is never there and the likes of Palmer gives you something that the others apart from Sakka don’t have.

The ability to make something happen.

Anderson was playing like Rice when Arsenal want to defend, right in front of his centre halves!  Against a team that’s parked the bus!

Jordan is on there talking of Manduke on the left, that’s not his position.

Yet another tournament playing players out of position.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 5:24 PM BST
You're not allowed to take people on and beat them anymore unless it's down the flanks

That’s old school England style as heard in the John Barnes rap, “Gotta get by them, down the line and around the back….”

It’s ancient!

Palmer allows you someone who can attack down the middle, I can’t see anyone in the squad who can play in those tight spaces.

Again it’s not about one player, the buck stops with the manager and his selections.

Even his subs are like for like, one runner for another.
Report Hugo-Hackenbush June 24, 2026 5:29 PM BST

Report howard June 24, 2026 5:32 PM BST
I would give Rogers a start maybe in place of Kane. There's so many subs these days if he's no good bring Harry on.
Report duffy June 24, 2026 5:39 PM BST
Dela, you're talking about Palmer as if he's Xavi or Iniesta, he's not, he's another very decent player who can do something clever when he's afforded room to play, you can also throw in the fact that he's carrying an injury who's struggled all season in a struggling side which is probably foremost in the manager's mind for leaving him behind.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 5:53 PM BST
I’m not comparing him to the Spaniards, I’m saying what’s fact there’s no one there with his ability but again it’s not about one player.

Sakka is there carrying an injury, Saliba is playing with one, Rice has had one. I don’t buy the he’s injured but think it’s more an attitude thing with him.

What you don’t see is that Palmer doesn’t need the room to play, that’s my point, he can turn someone the same way that Sakka can like they are a London taxi cab.

That’s rare.

I don’t see what Bellingham adds or what his position even is?

We left players who were playing and took others like Stones who haven’t been, or Toney who’s been in a crud league.

Burn is there when Slab isn’t! Crazy

All those who dogged Arsenal for the way they play would love one of their specials in this tournament I’m sure.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 5:57 PM BST
None of these teams scare me, Spain, France, Brazil.

I’d love to know what Southgate makes of it because it’s a step back for me.

Tommy Tucs even said in his post match interview that he has ideas to go down the middle.

But get this, he said that he was reticent last night! Crazy

My we are in a knock out comp and the manager admits that!!
Report duffy June 24, 2026 5:58 PM BST
I agree with some of the selections, Stones is crazy, Sakha carrying a dodgy achilles of all things, Spence because he's fast runner!!
Report duffy June 24, 2026 6:01 PM BST
Argentina are the best team so far, they can pass it through the lines and all look comfortable in possession, France have individuals who can break a game apart, Brazil's midfield is an accident waiting to happen, and it will happen, and Spain have shown that they too struggle against a stubborn lesser side who can defend.
Report Delashay June 24, 2026 6:05 PM BST
Spence has done himself no harm though, has a total lack of experience and when he galloped with Sakka down the right he looked something fresh.
Sakka was terrible this year for Arsenal.

That’s a fair summary on the opposition from what we’ve seen Duffy.

O’Rielly is great going forwards but he can’t defend.

I’ll probably hit the sack and not wait up for the next match! Laugh

Oh course he’d be in the team, over rated yes Reg because of the press it happens all the time.

Last time had our eye on him and took our eye off the man, Greezeman.

In the Champions league final Dembelle was useless, they aren’t the force that they’d like us to think that they are.

The first and second games are oil and water, Croatia were happy to have a tear up which suited us, Ghana weren't, you can't insist on them to play open football so we can have more space.

There is absolutely nothing whatsoever England could have done to force a replication of game one.

Again, if the technical excellence of Spain can struggle against a low block, so can we.

If and when we go out it will be against a team that affords us all the space in the world, so we don't need to worry on that score, if we think an EPL game is what we need, we'll get the chance to prove it.
