Running AI models across all races in the UK and trying to find the bet of the day.

Royal Ascot week always pulls the eye toward the glamour races, but today the model made its clearest case somewhere rather more modest — a five-furlong novice at Redcar. I scanned all 54 races declared on 20 June 2026 and applied the filter pipeline in sequence. The odds band kept runners priced between 2.0 and 50.0 decimal — no odds-on, nothing longer than 49/1. The field-size gate retained only runners in races with 6–14 declared starters, stripping out tiny fields and chaotic cavalry charges alike. Feature weights were set at 1.5 for speed, 1.2 for form and market move, 1.0 for class change, 0.8 for trainer strike rate and going, and 0.5 for draw — though draw data is unavailable in the current build and was reserved for v2 across the entire shortlist. Once the pipeline had run, I ranked survivors by weighted composite score and took the top six to the shortlist.

Today's universe
The day opened with 511 runners across 54 races. The race-state check dropped none. The odds filter trimmed the field to 462, removing odds-on favourites and long-shots beyond 49/1. The field-size gate then cut that to 293 qualifying runners — the working pool from which today's shortlist was drawn.

The shortlist
Six horses separated themselves from the 293-runner pool. Furturra led with a composite of 7.34/10, a clear gap above Harmani at 7.19/10 in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal. Goliath at 6.94/10 was third, running in the Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) at Ascot, followed by Desert Treasure at 6.89/10, A Piece Of Heaven at 6.83/10, and Undercover Affair at 6.72/10. What separated the top two was principally the speed score: Furturra's z-score of +2.03 is comfortably the highest in the group, and her class-change score of +1.80 — dropping from a rank-4 race to a rank-6 race — gave her a margin Harmani could not bridge given the missing class-change data on the Ulster Derby.

Why this horse
Furturra's speed figure is the number that anchors this selection. An SR of 163 against a field mean of 136.4 produces a z-score of +2.03 — the highest speed reading in today's entire shortlist and a score the model weights most heavily at 1.5. That is not a marginal edge; it is a horse whose sectional profile sits two standard deviations above her average rival in a Class 5 sprint at Redcar. The form score of +1.55 reinforces the picture: recent form reads '472312', and the decay-weighted average of +1.04 on that latest win suggests she is arriving in form rather than riding past momentum. The class-change delta adds further texture — today's rank-6 race is a step down from her last-time-out rank-4 assignment, scoring +1.80 and suggesting the model views this as a winnable assignment relative to her recent experience.

The market-move score of +2.00 — the maximum available signal — is the corroborating piece of evidence I find hardest to dismiss. A strict majority of bookmakers shortened on Furturra with none drifting; that is the market speaking in a direction consistent with everything else in the data. The combination of the speed z-score, a positive form trajectory, a drop in class, and a unanimous steamer is what lifts the composite to 7.34/10, which I would characterise as a solid-to-strong reading.

I should acknowledge the odds. At 6/5 decimal (2.2), Furturra sits at the very bottom of the qualifying band — just above the odds-on threshold. That compresses the value case considerably, and the engine conviction is rated MEDIUM rather than HIGH accordingly. The selection is made on score, not on generous odds, and the staking suggestion reflects that.

What worries me
The trainer flag is the clearest concern in the data. Tim Easterby's 30-day strike rate sits at 8% (17 from 213), scored at -0.34 — the only negative feature in Furturra's breakdown, and a cold number by any measure. A trainer out of form can undermine even a strong speed profile, and this is not a figure I can ignore. The going score of +0.36 is also modest: one win from seven starts on good or adjacent going, with four placings — not a horse who has stamped good ground as her best surface, even if she has coped with it. Draw data is unavailable across the full shortlist, which means I cannot account for any potential bias at Redcar over five furlongs and change — a gap that may matter more on a track with known stall tendencies. Finally, the odds themselves carry implicit risk: at 6/5, the margin for error is slim, and any deterioration in conditions or a slow start could make the price look expensive in hindsight. Harmani at 7.19/10 was a genuine runner-up in today's score-off, and on a different day — or with class-change data available — that gap could narrow or reverse.

Hi Tanglefoot, AI perspective on Satono Reve's chances

Thinks the value has gone now, quite short.

Hi Iris,AI most probably the future of punting, gave Mission Central on the first day of Ascot, but as I have mentioned before most punters like to make their own selections and not some anonymous person giving tips,gl

Yes totally with you on that, I want to create a belief system that AI can harden a punters choice for their fancy to strengthen their position, I also want them to have tools to take on bookies.  Bookies have these tools I want to help punters level the playing field.

This proposition is very early in its stage. More to come.

Thanks for the feedback really appreciated.
