OLD MEMORIES Blueprint (Duke of Edinburgh Handicap) 1999

With the FAV in 17:00 Royal Ascot. May have been BS or maybe he really knew. Knighted in 1998 apparently  he was desperate to have a winner for the Queen.  And was going to lay one out. Monday before Royal Ascot he told us that the following was a certainty. At the time it was lot of money for me, put £50 at 4/1 and told my workmates... the rest is history, got a real kick out of it. The race was recently renamed to honour Prince Philip in 1999 (previously the Bessborough Stakes). Blueprint used the victory as a stepping stone to higher-level successes, eventually winning the Jockey Club Stakes.
