Looked like it might get swallowed up at one point a few furlongs out. Layed a chunk myself sadly. Then battles inside final furlong when looking beat.

Think it all got taken before the 2f marker where it looked like it might be in trouble for a stride or two

Was all matched between the 2f and 3f pole. I thought for a stride or two it was in trouble so was happy to oppose at below SP, then was relieved that despite finding plenty Persica was holding on, but of course when it's a larger bet than usual it doesn't always work out well and Persica headed LaughCry

That was a very rare bet - like going back 10/15 years. Even if you lost back then you'd still be confident you would get it back by the end of the day - a bad loss now can take days/weeks to pull it back.

Its still possible to grind it out - but enjoyment level is at an all time low, but every few months/year is a bonus as its defo on borrowed time.

the 17k came in after a furlong or so at around 3.1, then was moved to 2.98 ish after 10 seconds or so later

cant see been on the rail to one of the rail.making the difference compared to where the winner was coming around the bend to Newark rail compared to where the 2nd came from, give inside to no one and then comes across to one of near rail in space of a furlong and a half

That's what I was thinking, though why not lump on before the off?

As Wicklow says, you used to be able to lay half a dozen of these, so would be less annoying to lose bets like this.

They probably did before the off and then had a top up bet IR when it looked like a 2 horse race

wasnt a 2 horse race 2-3f out.

looks like the way to get on a really big bet is place it soon after the off at less than SP   sounds daft but at least you are on Silly

If you had a strong opinion on the front 2 and one heads for the rail and the other is stuck out in the middle. What's your play?

I actually thought for a second it was about to get swallowed and didn't want to miss the lay. Read it very wrong but it was below SP by 40% so still seemed a nice play. Didn't work out that well sadly Laugh

It's not a bad play if you fancy 2 in a race but the pre race prices doesn't really make it a viable bet. Look for a track bias or a simple one of the  runners appears to be going better than the other. But as we all know, this can backfire on you...the one going well falls in a hole and your other selection that's been scrubbed along 3F out stays on strongly and wins a touch snugly  Devil

prices taken under SP can still be value   and 2/1 rather than 5/2 you lose 20% of winnings so I take it you laid at less than 2.92
