I remember it well we were working away and inside in a steel shed, we had to start at 5 am and finish at 1 as it was unbearable, we were stopping at a pub in Halifax and a mother and daughter had just hade a fire in the house and moved into the pub with rooms, I remember going back to my double room one night on opening the door my mate was stark naked with the mother starkers. Both stood at each end of the bed on wheels and he’s trying to get her on the bed she’s squealing ffs to calm it all down it was agreed she would sleep in my bed lol, it’s why I remember that week

I was a farmer in 1976 and yes it was very dry but I can't remember the temperatures. What was unique about it in my lifetime (65 years as an adult) was the length of the drought. We farmed on the Cotswolds so had light soil that needed rain but we had none for 3 months. The whole grain harvest was completed in June as it just died in the fields. In a normal year we had barely started before the end of June. The "experts" on the media confidently told us that it would happen every year after that. 1977 was one of the coldest and wettest on record! The current dry spell is following a very cold and wet start to May and it seems likely to return to normal (20-22 degrees) by Monday so only 4-5 really hot days.

Temperatures will wax and wane for millenia, nothing we do will change that, fossil fuels will deplete anyway and be unavailable in 100 years, at that point renewables will be much advanced and take up the slack, all a worry over nothing, what does concern me is plastic polluting all the oceans and how we dispose of our waste, we need to focus on that.

The climate change could be cyclical,but the world as advanced so much,that’s it’s just strange timing.

The biggest short term weather problems are wars.

When Covid happened and seas were calm,heat wave ,no storms,

Bombing Croatia,and recently Iran hits the tectonic plates,wobbles the earth,swills the seas,creates storms.

But no of us will be affected,plus they ll adapt when it happens.

But why not just change cos it’s clearly better than oil,coal,etc.

I wonder why everyone can quote 1976? Could it be that it stood out like a sore thumb, and nobody expected it was going to happen every year? Obviously, even then it didn't hit 35° in spring.

The people who moan these days are those that think 15° is cold. Even winter's these days are not cold for any notable length of time, and you rarely get snow. We get a lot more significant heat, far more torrential rain, and far stronger winds, none of which are great news.

Small world indeed. Next to the bookie was a law firm. Now, the place esp North Acton has changed. Its rejuvenation is unbelievable. About a  month ago I was on the Tube to get some Borma baklawa from Patchi in North Acton. I'd barely recognised the new buildings. Everything was clean and modern.

Central Middlesex Hospital is lot bigger, cleaner and nicer; Asda is still there; McVitie (?). But, the roads eg Minerva, Standard, etc, are still as narrow as bamboo.

Mr David Suchet lived in a big detached house just off Horn Lane in Acton too. I can only remember Acacia Road now.

Not been back in years now, driving down the A40 last time I couldn’t believe all the new buildings that had popped up!

I recall you saying that you liked Baklawa when you saw that horse running in the French Guineas!

They tore down lots of South Acton estate which was a hotbed for agro. My friend was from there and you wouldn’t want to walk through it on your own!

Where is S Acton estate? You do not mean White City estate, do you? I was living on St Dunstans Ave for a brief period in the early 80's. I remember a Sunlight Linen place in S Acton which did the laundry for hotels and hospitals.

It’s was over the back of the high street, behind McDonalds.

White City was by QPR’s ground we spoke about it before, the Pub there The GENERAL Smutts is now a Mosque.

I think that was where Sunlight Linen was. That area was dodgy. I bought a Vauxhall Cavalier in the car yard under the bridge on Acton High Street. There was also a Chinese Supermarket close to a Kwik Save further up towards White city estate.

I must try to drive over there before I kick the bucket to reminisce.
