Oleksandr Usyk will step back into the ring for the first time in nearly 12 months this week when he takes on Rico Verhoeven in Egypt. The Ukrainian heavyweight king will go head-to-head with the Dutch kickboxing legend in a spectacular clash at the Pyramids of Giza.
It's safe to say Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) will hold the upper hand going into the contest, as the unified heavyweight champion of the world meets a kickboxer with only one professional boxing bout to his name. It represents Usyk's first fight since July 2025, when he knocked out Daniel Dubois in July 2025 to become a two-time world heavyweight king.
how in fcks name does a bloke with 1 boxing fight 12yr ago get such a chance?

I must admit 1.06 against a kickboxer seems very fair,of course Rico is 3st heavier so with heavyweights 1 punch can end a contest but Usyk has beaten way heavier opponents easily before,gl if having a bet.

Level on 2 judges cards after 10 rounds and Rico 1 up on the other. ... So even if he hadn't stopped it after a 10-8 round, Usyk would've been ahead on all 3 scorecards.

The scoring looked very and surprisingly fair from the reported. Then Usyk ko'd him. It's just noise and a distorted picture (ahead on the scorecards, when not ahead in reality) to create headlines
There is some very dodgy scoring from time to time. This wasn't one of them.

Five (is it) World Champions? BS but the public buy it. A lifetime avoiding people, a succession of fodder. In this case, one fight in a year, and then it's against an undeserved opponent. It is what it is, but there is no such thing as 5 world champions. That's an oxymoron

bearing in mind there was only a few seconds left of the 11th the ref could have given him a standing count and let him come out for the 12th..if there had been 1 min left of the 11th i think usyk would have stopped him..a minutes rest and who knows.
