Might be worth a try...

Test Incognito Mode

Open a Private or Incognito window in your browser and try visiting racingpost.com - if it loads correctly there, the issue is caused by your standard browser cache or an extension.

That's the suggestion you receive when you contact the Post about this issue.

It doesn't work.

This is the email address I've been dealing with:

crmforward@racingpost.com

Let him know that you have the same problem, and maybe the pressure will pile up to do something about it.
I doubt it though.

Wannawin: I've just received a further reply from the Post:

We are sorry to hear this. If you can please share your IP address, we can ask our SRE team to have a look. Please click on the link below, copying and pasting what is displayed at the top of the screen for investigation;

https://www.whatsmyip.org/

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Might be worth including your IP address if you do contact the Post. (Please do.)

But I think the outcome might be: we've looked at your IP address and determined that your laptoop is old and manky. Buy a new one if you want to have access the go-ahead new-look Racing Post.

Thanks for your reply and other replies from posters. Tried but still no luck.
Have sent email.

I also sent this follow-up message to the Post:

Thanks for continuing the investigation. It's appreciated.

Just to recap: I can access the new racecards if I disable Javascript. But then all I get is a spinning wheel when I click on a horse's name.

However, with Javascript enabled I can access the horse's form if I go to the Runners Index on the Racecards page and click on a horse's name. But then I can't access the racecards, on account of Javascript now being enabled.

Hope that makes sense! I really do want this issue solved, because it is stopping me from using the site at all.

Thanks again.

Much more polite than they deserve, but I always say that politeness costs you nothing, but can get you plenty.

Maybe the info might help you discover a workaround for the problem. If you do, please make sure you share it.

I've discovered that when I click on a race in the list of races on the home page or on the racecards page, I still get the message

Application error: a client-side exception has occurred while loading www.racingpost.com (see the browser console for more information).

But if I refresh the page with that message up, the card for the race does appear for about three seconds. It then disappears again to be replaced once more by the above error message.

If I scroll quickly enough, I can click on the name of the horse I'm interested in and its form appears as per usual. As I have no interest in the bells and whistles on the Racing Post racecard itself, this works for me.

If I'm not quick enough to click on the horse I'm looking for, just refresh and have another go.

When I've finished with that horse's form, just click the back button, refresh when the error message appears, the card comes up again, and repeat for the next horse.

Try it. It sounds terribly complicated in writing, but it becomes intuitive once you've gone through the sequence a couple of times.

From my recollection this is a js error.

You could try disabling js. Some features of the host site won't display correctly. Moderate expertise needed. The url below explains how to disable and re-enable on Chrome. Of course, it's a temporary fix.

We've already worked out it's a javascript error thanks. And that disabling javascript stops you seeing a horse's form. See the 11.14 post.

Ok, just for troubleshooting check your time zone in the OS settings is set to automated and the correct one.

Most people should have this defaulted after set up, but sometimes override it. It can mess up js if it's not aligned.

I've never come across the IP impacting JS, fwiw. Since the features are working for most people, I would have thought it was specific to the machine. But not so specific that it is a single user. This can be ruled in/out by using a different machine obviously, or toggling wifi off and accessing the internet via 4g or 5g on a mobile device.

The Racing Post app and website work fine on my iPhone via wifi. Of course, the app and site are useless for form study on a phone, with so many features missing, even when you specify "desktop version".

I think the problem probably down to the age of my laptop. On the other hand a user on another thread has exactly the same problem with an 8-year-old Chromebook that he says is still receiving updates, so who knows?

Either way, I'm not going to start buying a new laptop every time the Post issues a downgrade.

Yes so if you're not using a vpn et al, the wifi on your phone used the same IP as your machine. I strongly suspect it's nothing to do with wifi.

If the RP have changed the architecture of their site, it could well be down to the capability of your machine. It would be interesting to see how new or otherwise, Wannawin.'s machine is.

I've never used a Chromebook, a quick google tells me that it seems to have its own bespoke OS. Does the OS update, or is it effectively 2018 tech?
By:

*nothing to do with wifi, ie vpn. It's the machine in my opinion.

If you can update the OS, make sure you have the latest release if possible.

I suspect the Post asked for your IP address so they could try and trace it through their logs.

For older machines, I suggest using the Firefox browser. You want the ESR version but the download site should detect your OS and default to that version. I've tried Firefox on Windows 7 and the racecards look OK at first glance.

I should just add for clarification my main machine runs Windows 10. The Windows 7 thing was just a test.

It works! Firefox works. Even on this 15-year-old Windows 7 laptop! I was dreading having to lose the speed and lack of fuss and the one-finger scrolling of Windows 7.

Thank you so much, Ramruma. I hope it would not be inappropriate to offer you a (virtual) manly hug at this point.

Glad to hear it, screaming from beneaththewaves. If it holds up, pay it forward by telling the Racing Post helpdesk you have been dealing with.

That way, they can tell other people, and their developers will have a new angle to investigate.

I have received a reply from RP asking me send a copy of the problem but they have only told me how to do it on windows, Linux or Mac. Don’t understand how to do it.
Still I am getting on well with ATR site.

Further reply from RP
We have been receiving intermittent reports of this nature, however, certainly not widespread. Our teams are investigating with the information that has been shared by affected customers and we hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Apologies for the inconvenience.
