Just shows how they manipulate the figures, there won’t be a person who believes that inflation is down, food is running at 30% a year, petrol beer all bills down lol, these stats are worth zero

Inflation is down, but that just means prices are going up more slowly.

Inflation is down, but prices are still going up, and going up from an already high level.

A drop in the inflation rate does not equate to a drop in prices....a lot of people think it does...prices don't drop in accordance with the rate of inflation....if inflationary upward pressures make an item £100 a 10% drop in inflation wont suddenly make that item £90.....it stays the same price but its upward increase is slowed to the current percentage figure

more pertinent (hopefully for the people on here) is the base effect. April is compared to April 2025. April 2025 is when the first damaging budget from Rachel from accounts kicked in. CPIH in April 2025 was 4.1%. Obviously if you're looking at the annual figures then the year to April 2026 excludes April 2025.

They also done the not so sleight of hand, moving some taxes from the domestic energy bills to general taxation. You could argue that the sleight of hand was putting taxes on to domestic energy in the first place (some are still on there).

Deflation, ie a genuine fall in prices is not always desirable.  A bit of low inflation is a good thing which is why the target is 2%.

You realise that government spending is included when they add up gdp? It's not up 0.6% it is 0.6%.
Inflation remains way above target, and nobody cares what the reported figure is. They care what the total in Tesco is when checking out, and how much is nicked for ct every month.
Immigration, do me a favour. It's still absurd numbers, just not over a million a year.

As I wrote on another thread, none of that is why Starmer is in trouble. He's simply in trouble as Labour MPs fear for their jobs.

I’m immune to that as I only ever put in £20’s worth of fuel.

The Mrs has been to the Opticians today. Needs a new pair of glasses. Guess how much?
