Petition as follows: 1. The new version of the website form is a major step backwards. Amongst other issues, it is difficult to navigate, and involves more clicking and scrolling than the previous version. It makes form study more laborious. 2. We ask that the RP brings back the old format ASAP and allows users the option of choosing between new and old versions. This will give the RP precious data as to which version is preferred. 3. For all future major website revamps that affect form study, the RP will pull together a panel of long term users and beta test the version before launching anything live.
If you broadly agree with the above, sign below and I'll send the completed petition to the RP and ask it to be escalated to management.
Signed. Only Saturday punter so first time I have seen the new set up. Has taken me twice as long to go through the cards and am still not confident I have seen everything so no bet. If it stays like this I will be off.

I can't help thinking that it is not just being unable to quickly study the specific form lines I use but that it is effecting me negatively, thus pisssing me orf, and causing me to make irrational decisions, leading me to do my bollox!

madhatters Excellent response, well said. We have been "privileged" to receive numerous "upgrades" from RP over the years, most of them uselerss and completely at odds with the old, but very relevant maxim of "if it ain`t broke don`t fix it". This latest debacle, however, clearly beats everything for being ill conceived, irrelevant, non user friendly - it is just plain daft. The only conclusion - it is bookmaker driven because they are the only ones who could possibly benefit from/approve of this disconnect from reality exhibited by RP. Possibly atr will approve as this total nonsense from RP can only elevates the attraction of their site. Hands up RP, you have dropped a brick on this, own up and make sure heads roll. It`s called damage limitation.

Calling people, “Dinosaurs” is ageist, as someone who soposidly cares about just morality on certain issues you sure pick your targets.
So you love the new design, you’ve made that clear.

I don't think sageform was asking how to stop the horse's pedigree from showing on the racecard. Rather, that for some reason he's not seeing them so he's assuming they've dumped them.
He just needs to click on 'Settings' to check and then toggle the 'Pedigree' setting to the 'on' position if need be.
As you'll see from the image below, I've chosen not to see the pedigree displayed.....

As I don't use the RP as a primary source of form study I will defer to those who do. But my objections initially were mainly on the absence of information - viz, the RPR and Topspeed tables that used to be at the foot of the racecard. They have now reappeared and a reply to my e mail DID confirm that there had been a glitch. It would have beed nice to have had that publically acknowedged while the fix was underway, but as far as I'm aware that didn't happen. Not knowing whether it was a malfunction or whether the feature had moved to a higher pricing band, left me wondering what to do. Now that they are back, I can say that it's an inconvenience having to navigate to a separate tab away from the racecard, but that is really a function of "muscle memory". I keep scrolling down before remembering that it's been relocated, and having to scroll back up again to click the tab.
However, that's really what I wanted to say here. I wonder if some objections are intinctive resistance to change. When we are all used to where things are, particularly the features we regularly use, repetition will reinforce itself in the brain. I actually think there is some useful information in the Data Tab. The lack of consultation, standard e mail responses, and absence of acknowledgements stand as criticism; and whether any of this was actually needed, remains highly questionable.

It's most certainly a resistance to change Sage. Happens in all spheres in the online space whereby folk convince themselves they are being ignored, overlooked, left behind etc. Embracing change for what it is and for whatever it is given it's here to stay is better than throwing the toys out of the pram. It won't take long for it all to calm down. If there are any 'bugs' they will be ironed out following feedback. Bugs are almost inevitable. Impossible to account for the unknown unknowns.

I have tried to get used to the new format but I cannot get used to it. I am going to switch to either ATR or Sporting life. I think the older you get the harder it is to accept change no matter how much you try.

This isn't a minor change, it is a total redesign for the purposes of appeasing their sponsors, the bookie chappies.
Those who pay a subscription to use it for their own purposes which is in direct competition with the bookie chappies are not deemed worthy of consideration.
Quite the opposite in fact.

It’s fine if they want to promote bookies odds etc..
The new design is basically. Bet spotlights tip. Click on bookie to bet it..
If I was Willian hill,coral,betfair done,boyles. I d be unhappy.
Given all the odds are now in the Ladbroke corporate colour ,red, instead if each bookies corporate colour..
The main gripe ,is space wasting and faded italics.
The writing of trainer and jockey is small and faded
The only bold stuff is
Horse name, spotlight selection, bookies odds in Ladbroke corporate red.

There’s just too much space wasted with white background,
Why
Each line should have a purpose
The gaps are bigger than the writing,
Take you 5 mins to scroll down all the runners in the national
Just cram it all up closer, change corporate colours, which I’m sure they will when betfair say,we want yellow, if not,no more adverts from us.
Pointless setting your preferred bookmaker. If the odds shown match ladbrokes corporate red.
Companies spend millions on corporate colours, only for the post to just dismiss this.
Presume it’s in red. To highlight more,to make you click and bet,so then the post get a cut of the bet.
But still could use each firms corporate colour.

Not sure with the passage of time alone we'd get used to the new format.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with change, but for the better, not worse.
A simple example.
If you switch to the 'compact' card, all details regarding headgear, CD wins, etc, disappears.
Why ?
It didn't with the old format, so why now ?
Is that simply a 'glitch' too which will be rectified in the fullness of time, or bad website design ?
Bizarrely, it will tell me it's the first time the jockey's ridden the nag, but I'm not really too bothered about that, tbh. I'd much rather see if the horse is sporting cheek-pieces, has a win at the distance, etc.
Is that really too much to ask ?
Problem is, that's just one example of a load of niggles which together add up to a heap : a heap of sh*te.

I’ve just measured the new box ,each runner. Sad ,I know, but it’s a quiet bank holiday..

I've been using the RP website for around 25 years now, and they've tinkered with it before, making changes which initially seemed a step backwards, but you got used to them pretty quickly using it each day.
But, this is very different given just how many issues there are with the updated version.
It's staggering that they didn't create a separate beta site with the proposed changes and ask users to trial it and give feedback. That way they may have avoided this whole fiasco.

I hated the post when the sporting life stopped But got used to it
Then didn’t feel great when they did the big switch over years ago,but it was great in the end, loads of options, worked great.
But this just looks cosmetic.
They can’t improve the features cos they had it all anyway,
Just it’s just look and design to tinker with,
It looks like change for change sake.
Plus the people they are aiming it at,I.e the drunks, casual race goer. Tend to not use the post site anyway.
A lot use the app.
Looks like they ve made the app and site the same.fair enough.
They’ve still got the wasted space problem and the corporate colours problem.

It’s all info,spotlight verdict,options to set stuff.
The horses name. Trainer, jockey. Needs to be bold print.less space between lines, bookies corporate colours,
Why don’t they explain the logic,
Surely even casual punters ,actually like to know the name of the horse or the jockey.
It’s tricky. Trying to please everyone,
The app should be simple, but the site should be more informed

Ok, so let's assume they're streamlining everything into one platform - an app.
I get that, to a degree, but it still doesn't explain why when you access the 'compact' card on the app vital bits of info' just disappear like a f*rt in the wind.
Somebody clearly thinks that knowing the jockey's up first time is significant enough to flag up on that page, but not the fact the horse is wearing blinkers for the first time.

Just get rid of empty space, return corporate colours on selected bookies, make horse, jockey, trainer. Same bold ink.
Them 3 are wrong,
Moving spotlight to top of page, maybe, that’s fine, helps punters read it first,
Better to read that than just look at a list of horse names,
They’re guiding you to an assessment of the race, rather than just a list of runners,no problem.

With the older - better - format, you could eyeball the runners, trainers, jockeys, course form, distance form, headgear, days since last run, tips, and the last six races at a glance : no noise. No distractions.
On that first pass alone you would begin to form an initial impression of the likely contenders, how competitive the race was, who the likely favourites were, and so on.
I would do this with both the current odds and tissue forecast turned off. Questions would then arise : POST SOVIET CRIMEA hasn't raced for 262 days ; has it ever won fresh ? Let's go and look. Prescott's AN ANT is sporting blinkers for the first time ; has it won before with aids ? Let's see.
Point is, it worked.
Now, they seem to be catering for people who wish to be spoon fed by relying on the opinion of an 'expert', and providing a bigger platform for the bookies.

Well, it's a business they're running when all is said and done, and profit is king.
Maybe p*ssing off a lot of knowledgeable subscribers in order attract the occasional punter who's a bit clueless will generate more money, but surely the optimal business strategy is to have a website, app - whatever - which appeals to both.

Spoon feeding and promoting bookies ,fine. Let them do it,,people want it.
It gets people interested, then they might look for themselves.
Just more compact, better italics, corporate colours, unless the bookies are happy being in a ladbrokes world.

There are plenty of other websites out there where you can access the form for free : Sp*rting Life, A* the Races, T*meform, the various bookies, etc.
But, people still ponied up to use the RP site.
They subscribed.
Why ?
Because it was the most user friendly.
Now, they risk losing those very people to a cohort who could just as easily access form for free elsewhere.
Does the Racing Post think those occasional punters will prefer their site to all the others ? Is it that the Spotlights and 'Verdict' in the RP are better than Timefirms on the SL website ? Well, even if they are, would those occasional punters realise that ? Of course not.
And as far as the Spotlight comments go, I've lost count of the times the 'expert' has referred to a filly as 'he' or 'his', i.e. THIS FEMALE HORSE : 'disappointing on his [sic] seasonal reappearance at Windsor 14 days ago, and he [sic] will need to settle better on this rise in trip'.
Who are they trying to appeal to ?
If it's the occasional punter, I think they may be on a hiding to nothing since none of them will be subscribing anyway.

Just crash all horse racing form websites and let people go back to what we did before the internet.
Buy last season's form book - whether by Raceform or Ti*eform - the Weekender each Wednesday for the last seven days' form, and then the Sporting Life or RP each day when you fancied a punt.
Laboriously write out each horse's form line, from the form book and Weekender, and then decide the race is too competitive for a bet.
By which time you had no time for further form study because you had to : a) go to work, or b) go to bed at a reasonable hour for work the next day, or c) simply have time to do anything else.
We're not asking much : the previous RP site was fine. Please put it back to how it was, or even offer us the chance to pay for it as an alternative option to the current shower of sh*t. We shouldn't have to, in the same way you shouldn't have to pay more for so-called organic veg', meaning veg' that isn't sprayed with sh*te, but we get the world's gone to sh*te anyway and just want to be able to study the form like we did before with no hassle.

It's basically not fit for purpose now. It would have been awful even if they rolled it out in the depths of Winter, but to do so during the height of the Flat season is unforgivable

In 1985 Coca Cola introduced their new recipe.on testing customers preferred it. The world went crazy and everyone hated it. Just so much wrong, as said by almost all the unreadable typeset and dazzling white space a major culprit, but plenty of other changes that make no sense. Example being when you click on the RPR or TS, the default order is from bottom rated upwards - no one views private handicap ratings whether it be RPR or Timeform from lowest upwards. It's though the presentation was decided by someone who spends more time searching for Eric Clapton albums from worst to best than form studying. Also, when browsing through a 2 year old maiden or conditions event I like to look at a list of the past winners of the race . You'd previously just scroll down to the bottom, now you have to bring up a whole new page via stats.
