It seems Bin Suroor is struggling for horses and jocks these days. Trainer couldn't have made it more clear that he wanted the horse ridden for stamina, but he holds him up, gets into a mess more than once, and then nearly compounds things by easing down too soon. Very much a case of a winner despite the ride.
Why? I didn't say he did. The implication was that he would sit second, certainly not boxed in behind the lead in fourth. After the race he was talking about stepping the horse up another two furlongs.

If you want to just ignore poor rides because 'they happen' then that's entirely up to you. I flagged it because some apologists will say a jock was riding to orders. Well, on this occasion he wasn't. If you are riding a horse who potentially wants a couple more furlongs you don't want to end up with traffic in front of you. Even if he won cosily on the line, he should never have found trouble in the first place.

Half cooked first time and should have won easily last night, rider gave the horse a hard time…..difference between what you get nowadays compared to Dettori…..

Whilst Orr is very much still riding for the Fahey yard, it would seem he's not automatic first choice anymore (if he ever was). I thought it may partly be to do with what minimum weight Orr can do, but then noticed him riding recently at 8-12 for an outside yard.
Incidentally, The 'Captain' and Josh on the unmissable The Verdict were all over Fighter's Spirit following his Beverley debut win, something like made up 50 lengths from the rear and ran the last furlong in seven seconds flat. Unbelievable, Jeff.
Given that, doubt Orr was too concerned about finding a bit of trouble in running, got out and even had time to ease up in the final strides.

'Not too concerned'? I suspect wetting himself was nearer to the mark. If he is so quick why is the idea to go a further two furlongs? I would take Bin Suroor's thoughts over grandad and the schoolboy.
Didn't think I needed to state the obvious, but you can hold a horse up in second. The key on a horse expected to stay further is having daylight in front of you.
If the jock had gone through the card it's totally irrelevant to the race in question.
