Justice is served and Rochdale gain promotion to League Two. In my view I do not see the logic or fairness in the play-offs. Last season York City scored 99 points in the National League, but stumbled out in the play-offs. Instead Oldham Athletic played better during the play-offs and were promoted, even though they finished the full season over 20 points behind York. This season Rochdale scored an incredible 106 points, 11 points clear of third placed Carlisle. When every other promotion and relegation place is based on the whole season's performances, why put teams like York and Rochdale through an end of season lottery when they may have injuries or just be exhausted? Others will no doubt disagree, but a better solution would be a system of bonus points awarded for goals scored. Why should a team winning 5-0 be awarded the same points a s a 1-0 victory? Why should a 0-0 draw score the same as a 4-4 thriller? Bonus points would also minimise the current importance of goal-differences and reward attacking teams.
Then a play off for another promotion relegation place between the team finishing 4th bottom v the team finishing 4th top, that would be much fairer than a team finishing up to 20 points behind another team getting promoted through the current play off system
Should be 3 up 3 down. Then a play off for another promotion relegation place between the team finishing 4th bottom v the team finishing 4th top, that would be much fairer than a team finishing up to 20 points behind another team getting promoted thro
