Dixon's first column has been un-paywalled by the Racing Post and can be read at

Another nice pie opens up. Surprised he has the time to fit it all in. Does he really need to punt at all?

I note he has already subtly planted some excuses for not criticising jocks. As for the Bow Echo stuff, hasn't Kealy already done that?

Not too disappointed this is the only contribution that I will get to see.

Celebrity pro-punters are the Racing Post's new stock-in-trade.

Johnny Dineen.
Moray Smith.
Ross Brierley.
Martin Dixon.

All these pro punters winning a successful life style.
Until they prove they are getting their bets on Im not convinced.
Dineen puts some of his bets up in the Post however he has a poor record.
If the Post received there bets before they ran they could report their success or otherwise.
They could do this by not revealing the horses names just a points p/l record.

Not sure anything will improve I was in Donnie for the night racing Sat 2nd good hour or so before first race tried 8 or 9 newsagents and shops near the course nobody had one most said they don't have any/order any because nobody can afford them they have a point.
Report Ramruma May 10, 2026 11:44 AM BST
Also I do not think the Racing Post is on "sale or return" which means newsagents are stuck with unsold copies instead of being able to return them. I could be years out of date on that though.

But if it is still the case it is another reason for not stocking the paper without regular orders from customers.

As much as I hardly purchase the RP anymore on the rare days where I may want to grab one and have a peruse over a pint it's nearly impossible to find anywhere that has it on the shelves. Not surprising considering it's cost to be honest.

To buy an RP daily now you are looking at over £150 per month....what other subscriptions cost that!
Report Ramruma May 10, 2026 11:50 AM BST
Cheaper to subscribe to RP Members Club+ which allows you to read the Post (and RFO and Weekender) online. It's not cheap but it is cheaper.

Financial Times subscriptions aren't cheap iirc.

At least he's going to be putting up some horses to follow - and not necessarily the bleedin' obvious - as demonstrated in his opening column by highlighting one from Beverley.
Report Busyfool May 10, 2026 11:58 AM BST
you can get the post in weightrose and often the co-op although its a bit random

dixon is the best pundit around

They have a stack of them 4ft high every morning at my local garage - but thats in Newmarket, so probably an outlier Happy
Report differentdrum May 10, 2026 1:45 PM BST
Couldn't he just highlight the horses that he has an interest in? Surely he knows more about those than anything else?
Report Mr Spock May 10, 2026 3:04 PM BST
We have them at our garage everyday and they are still there after 5pm so must be sale or return. Online at 50% is good as you get the Weekender, Racing/Football Outlook and any specials as well.

The RP is a bargain for those that don't buy it,BusyLaugh
