The 2,000 Guineas was very disappointing from an each-way backers perspective. Hopefully, the 1,000 won't just be a repeat. Big prices pop up all over the shop these days, not just in impossible looking handicaps, so it would almost be surprising for both of these to go to the top end. I backed Rose Ghaiyyath in the expectation of rain, but same with Punchestown, it never arrived, and the horse has gone for a walk in the market as a result. Both sides of the pedigree would offer hope that she might actually be better for a quicker surface. So not given up all hope, but added Elocutionist this morning. Her chance is more obvious. I think the trial she won looks much better than My Highness, who is much shorter in market. The horse she beat by daylight is going to be a leading fancy for the Pouliches.

Annoying for the second day running, although at least this time collected something. Winner had that stamina question mark, and also the question mark over the trainer form in these first two classics in recent years. Maybe he has given himself a kick up the backside after several recent disappointments. Rose Ghaiyyath ran okay, but was a huge drifter, and it was probably asking far too much of a trainer like Hughes to prepare a horse to win this first time.
