I was visiting a customer in Hereford, I work 3 days a month now My customer says, do you know my mate? I say, sorry , no....he's Ade Good child he says, sorry, still, no The other fella is embarrassed He won 71 million, yes 71 million on the euro lottery in 2019 Anyway, obviously a big change for him, but gave up his job as a factory worker, bought a big house in Hereford, but otherwise really down to earth bloke Joked about all the female attention he suddenly started getting Really good bloke But 71 million, bl00dy hell...think he says he gets 28k a week in interest but that seems low, perhaps I misheard
Does seem a bit low that interest figure Reg, unless he's already spent or given most of the winnings away. Quick calculation makes the rate about 2% which is surely way below what he could get. 71 million is far too much to win anyway, i mean how can you possibly spend it ?
Having said that, one UK ticket won £181m on the euros last month, ridiculous money for one person to suddenly get hold of. These big winners often leave somewhat miserable lives after their wins, so it's good to hear the guy you met seems happy.

£28k a week interest suggests it was very conservatively invested in bonds or even in a savings account.
On the other hand, he won't have been panicking about share drops every time President Trump logs into social media, and £4,000 a day is nice spending money.

I, too, make 28k a week interest on 71 million just over 2% per year. But that might well be after tax (so it is around 4%), because unless invested in a very sophisticated way, he will not be able to avoid higher rate tax on the interest.
Good luck to him, BUT, after coming up trumps on such a longshot I do hope the guy 'gave some of it back' with charitable donations. Kharma will cme into it otherwide!!
Personally, I'd take £25 million and setup a charitable trust designed to give money to individuals GENUINELY down on their luck. Then, I'd spend 1 or 2 days a week working out who should be given money and going to see them to check out their stories.
After that, it would be travel, horse racing and golf!! (Probably not that different from my retired life of today but with owning horses instead of backing them).
Sad to say, though, that the size of some of the lottery prizes are plain daft.
Some of the massive amounts won are wasted on people who are just not sophisticated enough with money to realise what they have won. Hence, surely a £50 million jackpot for one ticket would be better spilt 25 ways so that 25 tickets each win £2 million?

I would use that £236,666 this month to sponsor the Great Met, but only on condition Epsom restores it to 2m 2f across the downs.
That's right, howard. They don't._________I would use that £236,666 this month to sponsor the Great Met, but only on condition Epsom restores it to 2m 2f across the downs.
Stewarts, your post earlier...what happened was i met my customer who introduced me to his mate, who was the lottery winner Yeah, whatever the interest figures are, and I think I misheard,he's copping a lot each month Spent a couple of million on houses for himself and his parents, packed in working, obviously, bought a place in Portugal, then invested the rest...my customer is a big Hereford FC fan and wanted him to buy the club and spend loads to get them back in the league...but no chance, not a sports fan

My friend ran a lottery for the workers at his firm. Himself and about 12 girls on minimum wage making cardboard boxes. Copped 2.5 million between them and they all packed in as soon as the checks came, nearly broke the business.

barstool - small businesses can buy Lottery Syndicate Insurance to cover them against such eventualities, hiring temporary staff, recruitment costs etc
Reg - that £71m wouldn't last long trying to get Hereford back in the league, they only avoided relegation this year from National League North on goal difference
