In the last at Newmarket I ploughed a small amount of Oxygon and Maho Bay winnings into Dragon Leader and Jumby. Best I could do was 5th. But at this time of the Flat season I often wonder how horses that have been off since last summer/autumn can be placed in as favourite with confidence. Do the bookies consult on the yards and trainers? Does this breach passing information rules?
For example, Royal Velvet is 5, had been off 200 days and was on a career-high mark yet was installed at the front of the market.

The art of bookmaking is not now needed. Every night b366 put up great opening prices and very quickly find live ones when someone from a yard asks for say £100. Of course they are then restricted and or account closed but b366 then knows the live one

In the old day mike dillon at ladcrokes was told this all in advance through his contafts.
Ref royal velvet read the spotform comment, the nag did have very good form last year

Lets face it the game is very bent these days as there is no liquidity anymore cos people have just given up. Forget reading form tgat doesnt work anymore

If you want a great tip from me look at thecwell backed ones in the last few minutes before the off. They very often win and vice versa with the drifters. What does that tell you, that the game is bent

”Forget reading form tgat doesnt work anymore”

That’s not completely true

”that the game is bent”

This is however!

The bha has its head up its arse, stewards pay lip service when a gamble with no form wins.everytime this happens a form student is left seething and some think enough is enough. Afterall why waste leisure time on a pursuit that costs you money. Just give up and take up sport, a new language, holidays, a stunning girlfriend instead?

And then the bha scratches its head and says why is liquidity and attendances down. Duh

CF how was Time For Sandals made 11/4 fav? Won one turf race and was back from a lay off.

Quimall’s form was far from brilliant was 6 runner race last time and it went off 7/2!

The books have an idea but they also know that they had many others running against these.

Bookmaking hasnt changed radically. But today its easy and cheap for bookmakers to get reasonable opening prices. Then just keep the margin at 2pc per runner and let the squares bet, especially in ACCAs. Any sharps just get banned. Simples
