I wonder if anyone will offer trenchant criticism over the incident. Or will it be brushed under the carpet . . . ?

Look up morality in the dictionary - it might bring light.

You've answered your own question. Be fawning all over the hideous pair after their next winner.

Racing media has long been cheerleaders only. You couldn't get more dishonest views. That's all channels, and nothing will change. They are just promoting a bubble.

Did anyone noticed ITV was advertising Bingo prior to the start of this transmission? I'm astounded that the Advertising Standards Authority has allowed it.
Report 1st time poster April 10, 2026 3:17 PM BST
there's a good chance the starter will get interviewed for a brilliant start to last race, running out of people to interview rather than talk about the previous race

I'm astounded with some peoples views re racing on here, do we need a constant review of every bad thing that happens in a race. Anyone who whatched it in real time knows exactly what happened to the poor horse ,why rerun it time after time its simply pointless RIP Gold Dancer..
Report A_T April 10, 2026 3:38 PM BST
they'll need to bring on brough to explain how NH is the ultimate challenge
Report impossible123 April 10, 2026 3:42 PM BST
Townend should have pulled up Gold Dancer after jumping the last. There's no question about it. The horse was clearly wrong.
Report A_T April 10, 2026 3:43 PM BST
yeah how can PT not have spotted it when the commentator did? disgraceful
Report Rico-Dangleflaps April 10, 2026 3:44 PM BST
badly lame but running on 2nd never closed?  yeah we spotted it as well.
Report Delashay April 10, 2026 3:47 PM BST
Horse never been over the trip! Bit like Impaire wouldn’t have stayed yesterday Wink
Report A_T April 10, 2026 3:48 PM BST
so the commentator was lying?
Report workrider April 10, 2026 3:49 PM BST
In that case Johnjo should have pulled up his mount after the last yesterday , horses mouth nearly pulled off him as he tried to stay on board , yet it was lorded as a great ride ..

Any horse who behaved the way Gold Dancer did after jumping a fence - may it be the last fence or not - the horse should have been pulled up. Any jockey who continued to ride on should be suspended or asked to take a horse welfare awareness course before resuming their riding arrangement irrespective of the position of the horse in the race; horse's welfare before personal interest or ambition.

Mr Townend has made an injudicious and selfish decision to continue riding on. I think Mr Townend ought to consider not riding in this 2026 Aintree meeting.
Report Rico-Dangleflaps April 10, 2026 3:59 PM BST
remember the mullins/walsh horse a few years ago,hit the last...properly done the splits and stopped..got going and won...should ruby have pulled it up?

Daily Mail

A horse has been put down at Aintree Racecourse, shortly after winning the second race of Ladies' Day.

Gold Dancer fell at the final hurdle, but recovered to limp over the line to victory. The six-year-old was being ridden by Paul Townend, who continued to whip the horse after its fall. The prize money for winning the race was £67,524.

Gold Dancer, who was trained by Willie Mullins, looked on course to claim victory by a few lengths but slowed once it fell. Immediately after crossing the line, Townend dismounted, and vets rushed to give treatment.

daily mail more clueless clowns.

You are completely wrong. Before the last fence he slaps him a dozen times because the horse was finished so he beats it up around the head and neck to get it over the fence. That's when he's on the point of collapse.

that comment has elevated ewe to the absolute pinacle of a forum silleekhúnt.
