If it was made into a 4m 2f Jumpers Bumper they’d still be saying ban it.

The National is an iconic race. It's in the British staple. Once a year punters would not like it taken-off the menu either.

The flat race that stopped Australia has had several casualties regularly despite stringent veterinarian conditions.

The purists moan the race has lost its character with the smaller fences turning it into a high class staying handicap hurdle with added spruce.

So why are we keeping the Grand National alive?

It is mainly the hard core anti-antis who instinctively oppose the antis. Then they get back to moaning about how the race has been devalued.

Good points Ram and it’s for traditions sake isn’t it?

The race has changed and for me it needed to, the sight of all the screens wasn’t nice and last year watching Nick Rocket jump round was a delight as he jumped perfectly and was a picture of equine brilliance.

Ramruma, for you have the so called improvements, improved the race? Do you genuinely prefer it now to say, 2010?

Exactly, so who are we trying to please by hollowing out the sport exactly? It will be an imitation of what it used to be and student union types will still be angry and bitter.

If you don't think horses should die for sport, then be honest about it, and not a shill.
