Skelton should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Barney
To be fair to Skelton, he does train winners of all types, even honest triers.
Barney never trained a winner that wasn't bent.

The bookies ought to be ashamed of themselves for bringing this up. The odds were minuscule in comparison to proper payouts for a multiple.
DragonBet? Who is this betting entity? Is it a recent inception? I've never heard of it.

uptheirons, yes you can back it but do you trust the Skeltons to run it on its merits thats the problem, you have to back these 'Skelton plots' when they happen but it seems that the outfit is given a bit of a pass when it comes to the H'capper. We all could see what was happening with Langer Dan except the H'capper and also what was happening this year with Supremly West and Madara was obvious, even Skelton himself was practicaly saying they were playing the system with them, look we all backed them and great but their are outfits outthere whose horses get whacked up 10lb or so for winning some twobob race at a gaff track that might not win again for 18months depending on the name of the trainer that is where the unfairness lies along with the punters who dont know about the 'vagaries' of non triers.

When has the handicapper ever given ratings based on the yard having a reputation for plots?
The whole world knew Curley's MO, often buying highly rated German horses and getting them beat 40l until they had 25lb in hand. The handicapper still dropped them like a stone though.
Nobody knew when the handbrake was being lifted. At least you have a fair idea when they are for Skelton, and he doesn't operate like Curley did. Obviously the same for SMP and many others.

Barney's horses were largely his own barring the odd one for Patsy Byrne. The Skeltons work on an entirely different level with responsibilities to their Owners coming first. I don't have a problem with their M/O

To keep a lid on the plots. It's a completely different era, there are not many firms that can keep them under the radar until the show nowadays. There is not a lot of overlap between Skelton and Curley. They both trained racehorses, and are/were very successful in what they set out to achieve.

Why compare him to Barney? Hes a top flight trainer with a big string that likes to plot one up for his owners. Martin Pipe and Twiston-Davies were similar. On the flat, Luca Cumani, Barry Hills, Clive Brittain, Reg Akehurst, Mark Prescott, Paul Cole. I could go on and on. They all liked a good plot. Good to see the game still has a few of them imo, all part of the sport.
