Not surprised. Been obvious that they have been reducing their number of shops over the last 10 years or so.
Both Cork and Dublin had loads of shops back in the day, even before they took over the Coral shops in the late 90s. |

Less media rights; less Racing Post wallpaper sales; fewer jobs.

I'm surprised it has taken them so long and only 39. I can't see much hope for most of the others, Ladbrokes remaining shops or many other firms' outlets.

You’re right Ronnie I went into one on a Sunday had my bets written out and they said online only! I said there was no notice on the website where I’d taken the prices and they weren’t fussed! I asked if they phone up to ask if they would take the bets, it was so much work for them!
Before I left I told them, you do realise that your job is going down the pan with this sort of thing?! They weren’t bothered about that either! ![]() |

There's been a rumour for some time that Barney O'Hare (Bar One Racing) was taking over some of the Ladbrokes shops.

Obviously it's sad people will be losing their job and possibly the way of life too. However, the bookies cannot justify the presence of the shops on the high street on present business strategy ie focusing on fobt only, and disregarding other betting on sports eg horseracing, etc.
However, I hope it affects that Clare bloke. The guy has told so many porkies on live tv. He even came on live tv to correct a gaffe by his understudy on his company's sponsored race ie The Eclipse on the day. The Clare bloke has been living off the ill-gotten fobt profits for at least a decade now. |

Public gave up on Lbrokes long ago. Walk into any of their premises, even on a busy Saturday afternoon, dead as a dodo. Capoot.

I'd like to see only one betting shop in any high street. Anymore is surplus to requirement and an eyesore. The bookies on the high street these days are masquerading as casinos, period, and do not serve a purpose for almost every Joe or Harriet on the high street. The bookies are attractions for criminals and drug users; the toilets are locked and unavailable to the public.
