Worth checking out, today was Bookmaker and Turf Account!

Asked why bookmakers are called Turf Accounts ordinated in 1915 it was to give the sport which had a bad name or image an air of spurious respectability!
This made me laugh lots as my dad would say, “I’m off to the turf accounts, want me to invest any money?!” |

Bookmaker a balanced set of odds, which brought about the phrase , “turn up for the books” or a surprise when a “dead ringer” was fraudulently substituted for another in a race would romp home upsetting the odds.
It’s also where “dark horse” comes from and “ringer”  |
