I would have thought those who had apparently been stranded in Dubai wouldn't be in a rush to go back to an area that could be under threat from missiles, but not a bit of it, after riding a winner at Newcastle recently, Danny Tudhope said he intended to return to Meydan for the World Cup meeting.

Ryan Moore, Rossa Ryan, James Doyle and Saffie Osborne, are others making the return journey.

Not my type of thing but I’m sure some will play!

Can Lazzat be relied upon, I’d say he’s showing no, but this stiff course will suit, one of the Hills brothers once said that the 6f chute is like 7f so he stays that in his favour.

Calandagan has been on the go since his first start here last year, been to Japan and back since, that’s remarkable to keep a horse on the go for that long.
However his defeats have come where others have got first run, think City of Troy, Jan Bruegel. Moore rides pacemaker¿ for Buick and will try to draw the sting out of his finishing kick setting perfect fractions.

Will Al Riffa be outstayed over this trip?

Ombudsman goes for a guy who’s won this many times, should smash this lot, but the past has shown us that horses based there, that are thriving run well above their past form and that counts.
Gaia Force another shipper has form with the top Japanese miler Jantar Mantar, and finished ahead of last years 14/1 winner Soul Rush who was also 7, this one has just turned that but is inconsistent and was in receipt of weight when beating Japan’s top miler.
He’s half the odds of Soul Rush who defeated Romantic Warrior @ 2/5 but he’d had a hard race last time out in the Kings Cup on dirt.

Anyone else have anything to add?

Gosden was on hand to watch Ombudsman canter around Meydan's Tapeta training track on Wednesday, and was in an expansive mood as he looked back over the history of the event, as well as the long-term planning involved in targeting the $5m Dubai Turf with Ombudsman from before his epic clash with Calandagan in the Qipco Champion Stakes last October.

Maybe they are prone to over reacting? Diamond Johnny doesn’t seem stupid to me unlike the flag wavers!

But can you keep it to racing and not your crap please?

The draw has been made for the Sheema Classic, Calandagan is in 2 as he was last year, those out wide in big fields are disadvantaged as the bend comes up fast.

There are only 6 runners this year (9 last) yet in the home straight Calandagan only had 5 in front of him, as Buick turned in on Rebels Romance the commentator said that he was trying to make it a stiff stamina test.

I expect this will be the case again with Moore and Buick using the bends and the peloton racing style to try and pinch a lead and get first run.

Last year Calandagan was 5/4 and in receipt 1lb for the 4 yr old allowance, only beat the front running Durezza 1 1/2 at the line.

Yes seems big to me even if he was much bigger last year.

The draws are very similar to let year FY was (5) HS (7)

This time HS (5) FY (6)

With those small margins the break is everything and odds on is risky.

Walk of Stars was 12/1 when only 2 1/2 behind FY last year and is now 50/1

The trainer has gone easy on both his runners (Walk Of Stars and Imperial Emperor ) this time around for this race, I’d be wary of his runners across the card.
