Havent watched for years, Bet Lynch, Stan & Hilda, Elsie Tanner, Fred Gee, Eddie **** and so on, from the sixties right through to the early 90s great story lines and plenty funny storys even normal humdrum everyday storylines were written so that they would resonate with a normal working class audience that experienced the same in their lives.

IMO corries golden era 76 - 84....top 5 corrie characters 1 Stan ogden 2 eddie yatess 3 hilda ogden 4 fred gee 5 jack duckworth
as cropstick mentioned some of the jovial/comedic storylines involving the ogdens/eddie y.. bet lynch... fred gee etc etc were sublime....nowadays its crammed full of storylinees that are so far fetched and unreal its makes the trump administration look truthful. |

Full of gayers these days.

I watch classic corrie on itv3 wich is currently at 2007 and that is miles better than today's, aside from the wokeness ruining everything, there was a sort of atmosphere that is missing these days, the pub was always packed and a lot going on, nowadays when you see the rovers there's nothing going on in there and just a few people about.
Classic charactors like jack, vera, hilda, elsie, Baldwin even fred are all sadly missed and haven't been replaced and where once people like Steve and Dev were half serious have now been turned into clown figures. |

Probably the last decent story was that guy that tried to kill Gail and drove off the pier with her and her kids in (I think).

gave up about 2 years ago, absolute s hite.

Mr. Spock, just seen that from around 2006/7, David currently in 2007 has just pushed Gail down the stairs and gone around smashing everyone's windows and cars with a baseball bat.
We've got 2 serial killers that are yet to begin those storylines currently in it. |

Was good stuff and at least a bit believeable.

Haven't seen it this century but if its full of woke scripts then it most definitley IS true to life.

Yep, a right evil f****r, I think the scene when the lad was trapped in the car and he walked up to him and cold bloodedly shot him dead was the pinnacle of his storyline.

My favorite Corrie scene was when some Cockney geezer told Alf Roberts that he's a big fella but out of shape, before smacking him in the face.

Dont mention Len Fairclough ffs. No thumbs up from Acey ![]() Reg Holdsworth and the water bed scenes - classic stuff in the 90s. Corrie has completely lost it's soul these days, same as the other soaps, realistic storylines and characters sacrificed at the altar of DEI. They are constantly trying to outdo each other with ever more ridiculously OTT and unbelievable storylines. Corrie has even killed of Jim McDonald (so they have ) so no chance of him returning to liven things up. |

Emmerdale farm was good as weel in the 90s with baddie Alan Turner as NY estates manager, crooked Eric Pollard badboy Cain Dingle and so on, even before that really liked Joe sugden along with baddy Tom Merrick.

Corrie was great in the 70's & 80's. It didn't take itself seriously and had some great character actors. Bet Lynch, the Ogdens were excellent. The episode where Eddie Yates threw rubbish over the fence and Alf Robert's shop wars with a rival and the shop name kept changing... Best buys, Better buys etc, great stuff...

Some corrie trivia -
Stan Ogden pegged it in 1984 and Hilda took in a lodger named Henry Wakefield a couple of months later. When the local factory workers found out he was a strike breaker where he worked they forced him out and left poor old Hilda on her tod again. Henry was played by the splendidly named actor Finetime Fontayne. 40 years later he played Peter Barlow's cellmate Eugene, Peter was on remand at the time, accused of Tina McIntyre's murder |
|
By:
That should be 30 years later, not 40
![]() Brookside used to have some great storylines but started to lose its way a bit with the body under the patio plot, after which they seemed to almost be playing it for laughs at times. Jimmy Corkhill and Barry Grant were great characters and i also loved the stammering gangster s-s-s-s-sizzler .Some nice totty in it too. |
