I'm guessing Colin Brown?
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:03 PM GMT
Good guess but obvious and wrong.
Report Regbutler March 16, 2026 1:07 PM GMT
OK Blackbarn, don't be too harsh on me!

Richard Dunwoody, if I'm allowed a second go
Report Blencathra March 16, 2026 1:15 PM GMT
Didnt Simon Sherwood ride him couple times
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:15 PM GMT
Sorry, didnt mean to be harsh.  It was a good guess as is this one.  This one is also wrong. Clues will be provided at regular intervals.  This is very hard. The question was circulated among a group of racing mates and I got it but only because I was there. Questions of clarification are allowed which may help.
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:16 PM GMT
Yes Blencathra but not him either.
Report Busyfool March 16, 2026 1:17 PM GMT
might be a post-racing career sort of trick question

as in parading but not racing like the crazy c hill stuff at chelt
Report Regbutler March 16, 2026 1:18 PM GMT
The trainer at the time,  if not Elsworth, may be a decent clue
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:19 PM GMT
Good start Busyfool.  Clue 1 - DO never raced at Plumpton.  Clue 2 - The jockey in question is at Plumpton today.
Report Blencathra March 16, 2026 1:20 PM GMT
The jockey have a double barrel surname ??
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:23 PM GMT
Blencathra - Nope, but I bet I know who you are thinking of.
Report Blencathra March 16, 2026 1:23 PM GMT
SSE
Report Regbutler March 16, 2026 1:25 PM GMT
Joe Tizzard?
Not pumpkin head?
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:25 PM GMT
Another clue - It was Easter Monday 1999 and Busyfool correct - He paraded, galloped at some speed in front of the stands to huge cheers.
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:27 PM GMT
No to Ecc, Joe and the Pumpkin.    The latter is on the right lines though.
Report Blencathra March 16, 2026 1:29 PM GMT
Elsworth himself
Report Regbutler March 16, 2026 1:31 PM GMT
Gary Moore?
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:32 PM GMT
Sorry no!.  The only jockey who actually rode DO in a race, not already mentioned is Graham Bradley.  But it is not him either.    Final clue - Jockey turned Trainer
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:33 PM GMT
Not Gary but a really good guess.
Report uptheirons March 16, 2026 1:33 PM GMT
Sherwood?
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:39 PM GMT
Final clue - Jockey turned Trainer - Won the Whitbread Gold Cup as a Jockey and Trainer - He is at Plummers today as he has a runner??
Report Busyfool March 16, 2026 1:47 PM GMT
rowe
Report blackbarn March 16, 2026 1:51 PM GMT
Well done Busyfool.  Got a runner in the 2.15.   I have to say I have no idea why he was chosen to ride it, AND until I googled him, no idea that he had both ridden AND TRAINED a Whitbread Gold Cup Winner.  Thanks for taking part.  I will tell him somebody got it!!!
Report Regbutler March 16, 2026 1:54 PM GMT

Plumpton on a Monday afternoon is the perfect way to start the week.

Love the place. No Track Suit Dave today unfortunately as he's busy doing other stuff.
Report Busyfool March 16, 2026 3:09 PM GMT
