The rain came in the nick of time' icon 2hrs ago 08:33, 13 March 2026 By Lewis Porteous at Cheltenham
Jimmy Mangan looked like a happy chappy as he emerged from the stable yard at Cheltenham shortly before 8am. The County Cork trainer had been anxious about the drying ground for his Gold Cup hope Spillane's Tower, but 12mm of rain yesterday and overnight has eased the tension and he's anticipating a bold run at 4pm.
"The rain came in the nick of time," said Managan. "He probably wouldn't have been running without it but I'm very happy now, delighted. "He travelled over great. We arrived on Wednesday morning and he's 100 per cent. We've just been going out for a little look around with him every morning since we've been here. "It's a good race and I expect Gaelic Warrior to be right there, but I fancy my own horse. He was very good here the last day and I see no reason why he wouldn't put up a good show."
