Good morning reg hope your well

Can you remember the flat jockey who won the 2002 festival bumper quite possibly the best bumper ever to have taken place.
Report Jumper45 March 2, 2026 10:48 AM GMT
Jamie Spencer. I was there. My last Festival on course - I was moaning then about the crowds.
Report jimnast March 2, 2026 10:51 AM GMT
That’s the one jumper I didn’t even know till the following day there was a long stewards enquiry into the race
Report Regbutler March 2, 2026 10:54 AM GMT
Morning jimnast
Was that the one where there was a long stewards ? And everyone thought it a cert to get chucked, including myself ...I had a large bet on the 2nd, so pocket talking a bit

Pricewise has tipped The Mourne Rambler. Sorry, OP, if that's jinxed it.
Report punchestown March 2, 2026 8:22 PM GMT
Stormin was able to pick a few chips from a punter's bag he was put so far over the rail on Rhinestone Cowboy, not a chance it wouldn't have been turned around these days.
Report Regbutler March 2, 2026 11:07 PM GMT
Punchestown, that's exactly how I remember it, absolute miscarriage of justice
Ramruna, probably a jinx but I'm not on it (yet) so no problem for me
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:39 AM GMT
There was a much worse one in the stayers hurdle anyone remember the one I mean ?
Report second again March 3, 2026 7:25 AM GMT
Rose Ravine and Crimson Embers I would say ? Or possibly Avro Anson and Balasani?
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 7:42 AM GMT
The first one second again perhaps as they were both owned by the same person made a difference,as punchestown said they were taking chips this one was in the Guinness village.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 8:16 AM GMT
I can never remember which one won I do remember that I backed the one that didn’t which is probably why I still think about it.
Report second again March 3, 2026 8:58 AM GMT
I think Rose Ravine was FPTP and kept the race.
Report second again March 3, 2026 9:01 AM GMT
Probably the worst stewards decision I can remember. Though luckily not the most expensive for me.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 9:09 AM GMT
I was actually at Exeter around 20 years ago there was one at least equally as bad where the winner kept it I can’t remember the names of the horses involved it was a Friday and one was a grey.
Report penzance March 3, 2026 9:37 AM GMT
Crimson Embers won the Stayer's the next year.
Won it easy.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 10:02 AM GMT
Was hill of Slane in the race Penzance ?
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 10:29 AM GMT
The stayers down the years has more than held its own there’s been some great races and some great winners the thing that annoys most at Cheltenham is the false starts mine is when the press/ pundits call the ryanair the feature race of Thursday never has never will be ,
Report penzance March 3, 2026 4:31 PM GMT
1982 He was 2ND when Crimson Embers won.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 4:51 PM GMT
82 was there year jonjo was leading jockey at the meeting

How many winners?
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 4:51 PM GMT
The not there
Report penzance March 3, 2026 5:09 PM GMT
I guess 1 may be 2,countback?
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 5:25 PM GMT
Correct Penzance 1 winner won on placed horses

Can you imagine laying him as he was favourite and after 17 races he hadn’t road a winner with just the county hurdle to go you would be licking your chops ,then bang in he pops with path of peace.

There very few things you can be certain of in racing but a leading rider with one winner could only ever happen again if the last 3 days were abandoned.
Report penzance March 3, 2026 5:48 PM GMT
Hill Of Slane looked up and says he was trained by K R Burke.
I take it that's the Karl Burke of today?
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:12 PM GMT
I would be astonished if it was the same one Penzance
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:17 PM GMT
I should have the sporting life from that day bit short of time tonight but I’ll look tomorrow
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:24 PM GMT
Got the life in front of me now Penzance

405 race Tuesday 16th match 1982

Hill of slane owned by Andy turnbull trained by a Jarvis ridden by a turnell

13;800 to the winner 3 races on the card sponsored by Waterford crystal

Just noticed there was a 645am inspection due to the soaking conditions

Pictures of a young David Nicholson on the front page I never remember him been young.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:28 PM GMT
Bookmakers advertising the prices of horses in the centre pages that’s a distant memory
Report penzance March 3, 2026 6:33 PM GMT
Alan Jarvis?,Burkes father in law.
Report jimnast March 3, 2026 6:38 PM GMT
That’s correct Penzance Karl would have been in his late teens at the time of the 82 festival.
Report penzance March 3, 2026 6:42 PM GMT
Cheers,
sure I see Burke by his name in his form.
Must've got it wrong .

Well done Reg! Cool
I suspect the chequebook will be out for one of the runners in that race. If money were no object to me I would definitely be trying to buy the Adrian Keatley trained Horse
Report Whippin Piccadilly March 11, 2026 9:35 PM GMT
Given an a truly horrific ride
Report Regbutler March 11, 2026 9:39 PM GMT
Cheers Whippin and others, yes had a few quid on
I didn't particularly notice Diamont Dore, but saw in the write up that it finished well
...I should imagine there's a few good uns in there
Report Delashay March 12, 2026 10:29 AM GMT
