   " PRAY FOR RIO "

Everything you need to know about Rio Ferdinand's stance on returning from Dubai...
Rio Ferdinand recently relocated part of his family to a £6million mansion in Dubai before Iran launched air strikes across the Middle East. This move came shortly after his time working as a football pundit for TNT Sports ended.
Despite the luxurious lifestyle, his wife Kate has openly admitted to struggling with homesickness. She recently shared on a podcast that she deeply misses her friends and family back in London.
The couple moved to the United Arab Emirates with their three youngest children. However, Rio's two eldest sons chose to remain in the UK to pursue their professional football careers at Brighton.
The former Manchester United defender has praised the education system in Dubai as being highly beneficial for his children. He also expressed a belief that teachers in the UK are often underpaid and undervalued.
Ferdinand is currently enjoying his break from the demanding and relentless schedule of professional football. During this time, he has actively expanded his business portfolio by investing in the Middle Eastern sports platform Koora Break.
A permanent return to the UK looked highly unlikely for the family in the near future, but this was before strikes hit on Saturday. The financial benefits of living in a low-tax jurisdiction like Dubai are a significant factor in this decision.
Ferdinand has been vocal about his scepticism regarding how the UK government manages and spends tax revenue. He pointed out that rising taxes are difficult to accept when public services, such as the healthcare system, appear to be struggling.
Ultimately, the family is trying to balance the undeniable perks of their new life abroad with the emotional challenges of living far from home. While Dubai offers excellent business and educational opportunities, the emotional pull of the UK remains strong for Kate.

Though I doubt he sent his kids to a scummy state school.

So many people have been brainwashed into thinking that is not a desirable dream. ie they have been drilled into thinking that higher taxes are great. Though not for them. And low taxes are kryptonite. They think mass immigration is wonderful and at the same time moan that their kids will never have their own property.

This is the right wing myth about labour voters - you don't have to support every single policy or view they have to vote for them. I do because they are the least bad option IMO. Not because they are perfect on every policy. I support healthcare and education primarily, and happy to pay a little bit more taxes for that (Though Tories increased some taxation, so that's joke point anyway, all parties tax).

I don't support mass, or poorly limited, immigration however, so I'm not fully in support of some Labour voters on that. But many Labour people would agree with me too, of course.

not a fan of that either, as ive said before. but what constitutes a crime in dobuy is entirely at the whim of the absolute ruler, and he doesnt like much, including his own children and multiple wives

nearly all of the increased taxes are being used to pay interest on loans, and most of that borrowing was to deal with Covid19 which will blight our and many other economies for at least a generation. There is a finite amoint of money out there (unless they print more and cause inflation) so more tax means less spend in the rest of the economy so more unemployed so more on benefits, more tax, less income. It was ever thus.

The Tories are in the same space, stu. They screwed us over as well. They got rid of Truss as soon as she threatened a modest tax cutting agenda.

We have the biggest tax bill ever, biggest debt pile ever, and the worst public services in modern times.

IMO taxes are the most stupid points on voting choices. If you can afford it, it makes such little difference minor increases here and there. If you can't afford it, then you pay much less.

I'm not a classic left wing voter however, I can't stand all the PC agendas and promotions (gender, ethnic minority promotion etc), that are supposed to be 'left wing' (though I'm not sure they are really - they are apolitical IMO, plenty Tories helped promote them too.

The left/right split is very simplistic. I associate myself with some right wing, some left wing and some neither. I want less tax, more police leading to less crime, less migration from ANYWHERE including Australia, UAE, the US, France, Germany, Italy. At the same time I am opposed to multinationals, effective monopolies, ridiculous rent rises, urbanisation, destroying the countryside, pollution. A big range of views nearly all the same as they were 70 years ago although respect for the law and the local community was very different in my youth. Meanwhile the jocks in Dubai can stay in a bomb shelter until the next meeting at Meydan.

Sums me up too sage - the problem is you can't vote on 'issues' only parties, and it's forced choice. A limited system unfortunately, but that's nothing new always has been.

Busy, one of the reasons I don't quite lump them with the 'last lot' is the simple clandestine 'self support', money for mates, rich get richer philosophy, etc, that side previously gave one another (financial usually behind the scenes, and got found out for it a few times which prob eventually even registered with some voters enough). Whatever critiques of the current lot, I don't see that as the same with them - not as much at least.

Report sageform March 1, 2026 3:12 PM GMT
jimnast, you are wrong about how many people are decent unfortunately. Too many people excuse criminals and even support them when it comes to fly tipping, shop lifting, graffiti etc. That is why the police regularly come under attack when they try to control mob criminality. What too many fail to appreciate is that we ALL have to pay for what criminals do through lost property, criminal damage, costs of insurance, higher food prices, cost of policing, cost of criminal courts. It all comes from either our own pockets or our taxes. Breaking the law always costs money for someone else.

Tax is EVERYTHING as it is a disincentive. If you as a government want to stop something, you raise the cost of doing it.

So if they raise corp tax, there will be less business activity.

Economics 101 you'd have thought. If only we had a great example of Ireland having the lowest corp tax in europe and generating huge tax revenue.

But, of course, they do know. And it is deliberate :(

Indeed, that was the point I was making. People are so dumb now and unwilling to think for themselves, they were convinced that Truss threatening to reduce their taxes was a terrible thing. With corp tax it was ridiculously modest, simply reversing the planned increase. 'unfunded tax cuts' Cry

How many people do you think would be aware that the cost of government borrowing is higher now than it was in late 2022. 10% if you're lucky, imo.

Virtue signalling went to a new level at Elland road yesterday.
The game was stopped after 13 minutes so that Muslim players

The Chinese government operates with an "open" mind. Their advice to their citizens overseas could be tinged with disingenuity.

The Chinese government and the Indian government have been propping up the mad-Putin regime in the Ukraine war by profiting economically and financially buying mad-Putin's oil to help financed the war. The Chinese and Indian governments have little conscience inside and outside their respective countries as long as the policy serves their own needs.

Primal and self-interests are the key components regarding policies of the Chinese and Indian governments. The latter is trying to portray itself as a superpower and economic behemoth. But, in reality India is neither. India is a service-country (not a producer / manufacturer), but an assembler of foreign goods; the China is an avid producer of fake and cheap consumer goods.
